Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok so heres the deal, i go to school full time (last year of high school) and i dont have time to go out after school to ride becuase of school and lack off light and i usualy have to work. but thats not the major deal, SNOW is. we have snow and ice on the trails now, and soon we will have to much snow to even ride at all. so how do i keep up my endurance, and stay fit durring the winter in order to be strong once the racing seasons comes around? i will be racing sport class this next season (got 2nd last season in beginer) so i feel i need to keep doing somthing? i do ski every weekend and weekday when i can (yes i do skip school, but i only need 3 credits to go and i rank #1 in my class... so). skiing helps with leg strength, yes but not with much other than that. i usualy ski for 4-6 hours but hardly work up a sweat unless its a powder day and i hike.
So... what to do, what to do?

In anohter part of the forums weight training was suggested. Build strength. Legs and core building. Don't forget to build the upper body as well. If you are looking for cardio with a good leg workout, do stairs.

Good luck.

Ride on the roads. They are usually a lot clearer than the trails.

XC skiing is also a good option when there's snow. We were pounded 3 weeks ago so I went on ebay and bought an xc ski setup for about $100. I'll use them the 5-10 days of the year when cycling is out of the question.

Snow cycling is a blast. Get some big knobies, use the granny gears and keep moving! MTBs rule plus winter riding is great for building stamina and balance. If you make it fun, you'll find a way to ride.

Duh...

I wish I had said that! ICE/SNOW BIKING is one of my favorite things to do in the winter. I don't ski, snowmobile, or ice skate. Just add a few layers, some gloves, and the MTB. MMMMMMMMM,mmmmmmmmmmmmmm......good fun! :D

road riding is not much of an option, to much cinder, snow and ice... along with dumba$$ drivers. i guess i could try to go on the trails now, but soon they will be to deep to do that. nordic skiing i could do, but dont want to... alpine skiing is where it's at ;) maybe i should go snow shoeing? think thats a good option?
