I am Speechless.
Yesterday my wife was scratched by a bus on a really busy street in bumper to bumper traffic, and had our first major scene during bicycle commuting. Tried to stop the bus, bus wouldn't stop. Put the bike in front of bus so he couldn't run away, took the details, called the cops. Cops made a mockery of us saying as long as there is no "accident" he can't do anything. So he would need to see a broken hand or a leg so that he can take some action. A "slight touch" cannot be considered accident. And pretty much refused to acknowledge the "safe passing" clause of the law.
My wife was pretty shaken up by the incident, and so was I  Reported the details to the transit authority, and will do everything we can to see that appropriate action is taken against the driver !
And then today I come to my desk, and read this news ! Just very upsetting ....
Be careful out there all !

Does suck about what happened to your bike...problem is buses tedn to not care. You shoud've charged for attempted murder... say the bus tried to run you over.

Uh. A slight touch by a 3,000lbs plus vehicle? That at the very least is assault and battery. If you have the driver's info I'd try to press charges as such. Also, Keep in mind most Cops are not lawyers nor the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I have never been brushed but have made a number of complaints to our local bus company due to close calls. I know they make frequent pulls to the side but I've watched these guys go for hundreds of feet before and after a stop on the breakdown lane even though there was no traffic to prevent them from getting into a regular lane. They also pull into a lane without checking mirrors. I guess they think because they are bigger than a car everyone will move out of their way and they don't need to be responsible drivers.

Busses are the elephants of the traffic world. I always assume that they are pretty much going to ignore the fact that I exist unless I am smake dab in front of them taking the lane. They are careless and inconsiderate. Nimbly dodge and pass.
