With 10 days to go before the HHH up in Blue Mound, we need to find out who's going to be there.
Chime in with your plans. 100k? 200k? Volunteering? Cheering someone on?
I got my assignment and will be working the registration tent on Saturday morning and then I think I shift out to the final rest stop on County K. Look for the guy with the orange Copper Mountain ballcap, blue Saint Louis Zoo t-shirt and Oscar the Grouch socks and say "hey" if you can (or have the breath to spare at the final rest stop).

I'm in- for the 100K again (I swear I'm gonna try for a longer distance at the DLD). I should finish in around 4:15-4:30 saddle time and would love some riding partners! I'll wear my Great Lakes jersey. I ride a silver Jamis Satellite w/ black Brooks Saddle. I'll try to spot ya Cylowe. Woot.

It sold out in a few hours back in January. Recommendation for you: Sign up for the Dairyland Dare (http://www.dairylanddare.com) in August. See this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=390115).

They are/were allowing transfers this year. Check the site for info. Also some people were auctioning them.
If you have the balls you could theoretically bandit. Just don't snag the free stuff at the stops. ;)

I signed up for the 100, but I am considering trying to do more. Don't really feel like I want to do the entire 200k, but I will most likely do what CyLowe did last year and cut it to 100 miles.
Basically I am in much better shape this year and last year I remember thinking I could have done more than the 100K.
jbmadtown...when we were up there on Saturday I rode that speed for the 100K that we did. I'd say I'd ride with you, but climbing events have their own way of defining riding groups.

I'd say I'd ride with you, but the first pass up Mounds Park Road has its own way of defining riding groups.
Fixed that for you there.
I am in for the 100k but I am going to try and do the entire 200k route.
I signed up for the 200k, however the 100k might be more realistic for me.

I am in for the 200k. I tried it last year and ended up cutting it to 106 miles or so. In fact Cylowe passed me on the final climb up to the park, and I returned the favor a few minuites later within sight of the finish line.
I am about 10 lbs. lighter, have about 1000 more miles and 20,000+ more feet of climbing in my legs this year, so I am hoping I can finish it all this year.
I am also hoping we don't get hit with the high heat, high humidity again like last year. Since almost all of my training has been in < 60 deg. temps, it would be really tough to try to acclimate to 90+ and humid.
I will be in a Twin Six Cross jersey, and riding a black Tarmac, say hi if you see me.
I'll be there. I signed up for the 100K, and I'm not doing any more than that. I have no shame in admitting that I'm a wuss when it comes to hills. I sure hope my 12-27 cassette shows up soon, I'd hate to tackle this ride with my 12-23 :twitchy: I don't know what jersey I'm wearing yet, but I'll be the guy coasting down/walking up every hill :roflmao2:

At the very least we could try to meet up at the start. That way we'll get a few miles together before Blue Mounds.
I'll be wearing a BFNIC kit. 4-sure.

Volunteer: Also Saturday registration (I may miss that) and Hwy K for the rest of the day.
Say hi to the guy in the Inter Milan jersey (see below), that would be me. :)

I will be there representing the BFNWMC. I will do the 200K. I just finished my last hard training ride 20 minutes ago. I did 126 miles with almost 9000ft of climbing. I think I can handle the extra 3000ft with a Little suffering.
We need to meet up Friday night so we cane talk some smack, only to be proven wrong on Saturday.

I'm partial to their debut album. More raw and to the point. "Clash City Rockers, ""Complete Control," "Police & Thieves," "White Man in Hammersmith Palais." None of that "Jimmy Jazz" filler stuff, y'know? ;)

Hmm.... maybe I'll have to really clash with my orange hat and Oscar socks and bust out my FC Barcelona top. Is this a bike ride, or the Club Championships??
Actually, I'll just have on blue t-shirt that says Saint Louis Zoo. That should be original enough.
And Hip, until you ride with us out that way, you pipe down about the Oscar socks. :)

I'm in for the 100K. Feeling a millions times better today than I was this past Saturday and may even feel froggy enough to go a few extra miles somewhere along the way. Don't know if I feel 200K froggy, but an 80-90 mile route sounds just about right. I'll look for you kids at the start.

Although the Green album is great, "I wasn't born so much as I fell out..." (from Lost in the Supermarket) elevates London Calling to the best album ever (the cover art isn't too shabby either).

No argument on Lost in the Supermarket. Or even "Clampdown" as far as individual songs go. Recently I've been stuck on stuff from Combat Rock. The Clash. What a band. Looks like we'll have an opportunity to delve deeper into this at the tents. :D

I am in for the 100K. Driving up Friday night, driving back Saturday night... as I'm on call that weekend and a buddy is taking over my pager duty so I can race... nice guy. So I have to haul it back asap after racebrat61 (Jim) finishes his 200K.
Anyone wanna hang with me and drink some beers while waiting for the 200K'ers?, any takers?:D

That would be perfect, as I am staying in Mount Horeb. I can do a little more carbloading since I wont have to drive.

That's how I ended up with my avatar.
Don't have travel plans all pinned up yet, but I will most likely be driving = no repeat of beerfest. Now...I just have to stay awake on the ride home....:(

I'm hanging out for a little while afterwards too. I'm driving up that morning, and I'm sure I could use a little rest before jumping right back in the car.
I'm signed up for the 100k also. I'm sure I would have no trouble making myself hang out for a few beers after the ride.
This is my first go at the HHH. Hopefully, it won't be my last.
I'm signed up for the 200K. I'd intended to do the 200K last year but ran into bike problems (broken pawl spring) after the first climb up Blue Mounds and had to walk back up the hill from town. I still completed the 100K on a new wheel, but thinking back it was a blessing as I don't think I could have finished the 200K last year. This year I've got a lot more miles in, but it's still going to be tough doing all those hills in one day...
Maybe I just need to relax as I completed the DLD 200K last year...

So who's going to be up in the area on Friday night? It would be great to get together for dinner, if at all possible.
I mentioned The Grumpy Troll (http://www.thegrumpytroll.com) in Mt Horeb upthread. "FRED" looked to be interested. How about Jose? tzracer? Psimet?
It might be a little tough to coordinate given people's schedules. It's only a few blocks from the high school where packet pickup is for the HHH. 6:30 pm? 7 pm? 7:30 pm? Etc? Depending on how many folks are interested we might want to call ahead. Chime in here or shoot me a PM if you're interested and we'll get it coordinated somehow.
Because of the length of my drive, I plan on getting there early and checking in to my room so I can go over my bike (make sure nothing came loose). Any time will be OK for me.

Then it's settled. 7 pm for eats at the Grumpy Troll.
Anyone who's interested in joining us, please let me know by Wednesday and I'll make a call the restaurant to see if we can get a reservation. They were quite busy last year, if I recall correctly.
Seven in so far for dinner... (updated Wednesday)
CyLowe, Jose, FRED, iab, Psimet, tzracer, tzracer's friend.
Also.... If anyone wants to ride a bit on Friday afternoon, let me know or send a PM. I'm planning on getting some saddle time in and around Cross Plains.

I just read a blog entry on NYtimes.com from Jonathan Vaughters- former pro and current director of Slipstream/Chipotle. He's writing about climbing. Here's a quote that made me chuckle as we approach the HHH. (I know it's not a race, but it's as close as many of us get. He goes on to give some good climbing tips. Read the whole entry here) (http://theclimb.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/06/ready-to-edit-and-post-expert-advice-from-jonathan-vaughters/index.html?partner=TOPIXNEWS&ei=5099)
"...the most important parts of bicycle races are always uphill. The tactical genius of those who stealthily hide behind the dolt plodding away into the wind up front is lost on hills. Hills put bike racing back into the realm of Darwin and the grunting cave man. The laws of nature rule on the hills, and only the strong will survive."
Ha. See you Saturday!

I'm in for the 200K, I'm getting a ride out with sekaijin.
I put a cue sheet together in excel from the posted 2008 map. I uploaded it to google docs here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=poFS3regtzKZ0pdFjiecaRg&hl=en). I fixed two mistakes where they swapped L for R and R for L (so they should be correct on the cue sheet), they are marked as "mistake" in column E. The first is at Greenwald rd at mile 34.6 and the second is Center st at mile 65.2.
You can export the cue sheet to excel and make changes by clicking on file in the upper left hand corner and hitting export in the drop down menu. There is also a simple clean HTML version here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=poFS3regtzKZ0pdFjiecaRg) if you just want to print it directly.
I hear the route is well marked and well staffed, so I really doubt you'll even need a cue sheet, but I like to have one just in case and the format is set up so I can fold it up and put it on my stem and hold it in place with a rubber band.
It looks like the weather is going to be good, see everyone Saturday.

They hand out an awesome map that is impervious to sweat and is more of a collectors item, but I will be checking out your sheet and the map late tonight so that I can put a route on mapmyride and download to my Garmin.

No...it's...uh...kind of a superstitious (yes I can't spell) thing. Cyclists are a funny lot when it comes to superstition. In this case it seems that whenever I wear the RAIN jersey from 2005....here's a shot of me wearing it in 2006....I've lost some weight it seems... :o
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9775/rainjerseycr0.jpg
...whenever I wear it it miraculously doesn't rain. On the flip side....EVERY time I wear white socks....it rains. Especially NEW white socks. That's like seeding the clouds.
