I got a training program off a website that is for tri's and this seemed to be a doable training program. He is the deal I started riding about 4 months ago and since have really enjoyed it. Now I want to do a tri I think it will be a challege but again doable.

I started this program on Monday 06/02. For this program you do a trainning session 2x a week for each part 2 swims, 2 rides, 2 runs. and 2 rest days. You double up a swim and a ride in the same day once a week.

Anyways can I over train? I was riding my bike everyday at work and since I was tryin to stick with the schedule I feel bored at work durning my lunch break. Would it be alright to ride every day at work and still do the swims and run in the evening or will that be to much.

I was an athelete in high school and a Marine so I use to be in shape, but have let myself go over the years. I started riding to get back in shape and have lost 20 lbs. so I am getting better, still can't do a full 100 meter swim without stopping and can't run a mile without taking a break, but I can ride for ever (or till butt starts to get sore).

Should I or could I ride as much as I want to and still do the swim and run session as stated? Or just stick with the program as is?

Any help would be great.

Sounds like sticking to a gradual program for swimming and running is a good idea. As for the bike, I'd say it depends on how hard you're riding. If you're riding relatively leisurely, you can ride as much as you want. But if you're riding with performance goals and training in mind (i.e.-staying in a particular heart rate range, keeping up cadence, hillwork) you'll want to give your body ample time to recover between workouts. Maybe you want to up the intensity of your bike training?

Check out some books on tri training to supplement info. you're getting online. Check out Joe Friel's Triathlete's Training Bible, for example. Good luck!

Adding more riding is OK as long as you don't fell tired. Just don't push yourself too hard during your workouts. Not every bike ride should be a hammerfest.

Good luck in your Tri!

Thanks on my "training ride days" I will work to keep a pace or cadence or heart rate and mix in a few hills, but on all the other days I just ride a certain distance and come back there are a couple hills which I climb, but they aren't real hard and they are spaced out pretty far from each other so nothing I would call training hills. As for what tri I am doing or working to is the Misson Bay Tri in San Diego (Mission Bay) it is in Oct. Hey Ryon where do you ride and when maybe we can meet up a do a ride sometime.

Very cool. I'm signed up for the olympic distance tri in camp pendleton on July 19th. I'm actually living in Orange County right now but I will be moving to the UCSD area at the end of the month. Since the bike leg of the pendleton tri is pretty flat, I'll most likely be riding PCH a lot. I'll definitely be looking for riding / training partners. Where do you usually ride?

During the afternoon I ride in Sorrento Valley which is pretty close to USCD and on the weekend and nights I ride in Chula Vista. I think I am going to go a do a ride tomorrow up and back down the Silver Strand. I am not sure we ride the same training rides if you are wrking for a olympic distance but maybe on a regular ride day.
