Bicycle Mechanics - Break It, Fix It, Ride It?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is anyone familiar with this CD ROM? I am considering purchasing it to get started working on my own bikes. I don't have very much bike mechanics knowledge but I have spent last 13 years working on mechanical things.
Can someone recommend something better? I like the idea that it is on CD ROM!

Save your money, and access web sites on the subject. ;)

Forget the CD and buy "Zinn & the Art of Road Bike Maintenance" by Lennard Zinn. It is certainly the best book I have ever read on bicycle maintenance and it is up to date. If your bike is a mountain bike he has a twin book on mountain bike maintenance. They are printed by Velo press in Boulder Colorado.

I like Zinn & the Art of Road Bike Maintenance also.
The CD is ok for the most basic repairs. I personally
prefer a good manual (like the Barnetts stickied to
this thread). You can also go to Park Tools web site
they have good online fix it info.
Both the Zinn and Bicycling texts are well written and
cost less than the CD, and give way more info.

I own the cd and was very disapointed. It only covers the most basic things. It claims to be good enough for bike shop mechanics...well only if they have no mechanical skills at all.
Good idea - good interface - content poorly done. 4 out of 10
