To me, it's just around the corner, especially in terms of training and being on vacation (bikeless) for 12 of the next 18 days. So who's in these days?

wish I was... but I leave for Canada that day. Hopefully next year.

You'll kick butt voldemort!:thumb:

Need I say it...:D

I was just thinking about it today. Voldemort you're going to have fun. Nothing to worry about. Just bring your suitcase of courage.

That is my kind of ride :D

However the drive there and back, along with getting back to my car after the ride has discouraged me.

I am planning to do if doc clears me to ride. Tons of training on the CT 'til then. Hopefully the pins will be out of my wrist.

I'm in.
24 years old. 6'1" - 202 lbs. I've been riding about 1 1/2 months. I knocked out 106 miles last weekend. 44 with CIBA and the rest on my own getting to and from the southeast side of Indy to 151st for the CIBA ride.
My furthest ride before last weekend was 32 miles. I think the key is just eating. I feel like 160 miles is doable, especially if there are a ton of riders I can draft behind. :D Good luck to us all, I'm very excited to add it to my list of starting distance accomplishments when it comes to cycling.

I'm in! Wife and kids (SAG) are more excited about it than I am though. I'm feeling sluggish this year for some reason.

What ever happened to you on the Udder? You were there one minute then gone....never to be seen again. I knew you were thinking about doing the 70 option, but I could have sworn you made it North of that turn around spot with us.

I was at the back of the pack when the 75mi and 100mi route split off. I yelled out that I was heading straight, but I think the only one that heard me was Chuck. I kinda wished I stayed and did the 100 with the rest of you guys. Coming back by myself wasn't too bad until I missed a turn and ended up on 14. I added 6 miles to my ride that day :)

Awesome. TIme for me to register.

Well, I just registered. Nothing like waiting until after the discount deadline and paying an extra $10. For anyone interested, every hotel in Terre Haute was booked. I was able to get a room in Marshall, IL which is just off of I70 on the Illinois side. I actual preferred Marshall because the ride to the starting line is more straight forward (for my SAG driver), and not much farther. Plenty of resturants around too. Sure beats staying at the Super8 in Paris!

****FYI****

For us FIB's, don't make the same mistake I did last year, and make a note that for RAIN, the time is 1 hour AHEAD. I starved, and dragged my family last year to the Drury Inn to pick up my packet. Got there at 8:50pm, glad to have just made it when they told me that packet pick up ended an hour ago. We had to get up super early to go back in the morning  You've been warned.

Starting to ponder logistics. I am gone on vacation for a week so we're really just down to a few weeks left to plan. aham, voldemort....I'm talking to you...;)

oh, i thought you were talking to that turd in your pocket? my bad.

anyway, logistics are not really my thing. i am more of a game plan type of guy. the game plan is ride fast, limitted stops, ride faster.

i have some issues with the weekend. first, there is this big In-Law party that Saturday that the wife and kid are going to along with eveyone else i know that might have headed up our SAG Wagon. next, i am flying out to Orlando that Sunday.

I am very interested in the ride. However I don't have a hotel room, a ride back to my car, or sag support. Although I would gladly contribute to anyone wanting to share.

^^^^ the Holiday Inn still has plenty of rooms per their online site. i actually dont have a reservation in my name at this time. nor sag support or a ride back. who is in charge of these logistics anyway?

for me, unless i have a mechanical or abnormal issue i dont think i need on route SAG. the provided rest stops are more then sufficient in my opinion (and that is all this is). of course, having said that i am sure this year will produce horrible weather and major mechanical problems for me. :)

I thought we had decided this a long time ago aham.......it's one of the reasons I bought my van :p

I am driving down with a van. Voldemort and aham had reserved spots in it. I already have reservations for the Holiday Inn on Friday night that I can not cancel. As of now my wife will be driving SAG with my son along for the ride.

JT1 - even under this plan I might have room for 1 more rider. It will be a stretch. I have a 4 bike hitch rack and seating - technically - for 8.

I would assume that the spot will be available. Gas is expensive so the more the merrier right ;).

I'm thinking that this year (like aham alluded to) I will be using minimal support. I might just tell my wife to swing up to Indy and visit with the grandparents for most of the day. We can call her if weather, mechanical, or wussiness interferes with the ride.

I do always need water right after you get back on the highway after going around Indy though. 3 years in a row. Does anyone know if there is a store right there?

For reservations try at the Holiday Inn in Terre Haute. That is where I have my room and that is where aham was referring to when he said there are vacancies.

Dang it! Whoever is sure about doing this ride, make your reservations now! I'm stuck in Marshall, but oh well. What is that steak place across the street from the Drury called? I had a wicked good sirloin the night before RAIN. I think we'll eat there again unless something else catches our eye.

My car is full with myself, wife, two kids, and assorted tools/food/clothes for three females (7 suitcases) so I'm unable to lend a hand to anyone needing a ride. Best I can offer is to haul your bike down, back, or use of real tools (call my SAG).

If anyone is really worried about needing SAG, stop. I agree with aham, the rest stops were plenty good and adequate. I did carry three water bottles so I was good as far as that goes. In case of a mechanical, carry your multitool (mine has a chaintool, small and uncomfortable but it works in a pinch), patch kit, tubes, co2, quick link, and a few zip ties in case your hanger breaks off. You should be able to fix anything good enough unless you bb works itself loose. A bus service is also offered to shuttle you back to Terre Haute.

aham - shame on you for even mentioning horrible weather. If we get anything less than perfect weather and a W-E wind we're hiding all the cookies and getting a posse together.

Voldemort is on vacation till Friday. He has a room and would like a roomate. Anything else you need to know about him? ha

There is a Casey's General Store where you rejoin 40 at Morristown Pike to the east in Greenfield between the lunch stop and the Dunreith stop. You're at about 119 miles there with Dunreith being at 132 and the lunch stop at 91.

Ran the tentative plans by the driver. She's in. She might meet us in 1 or 2 spots along the course just because, but mostly I think she'll be hanging with the grand parents.

Hello to all. It has been a while for me, as I have been away from my computer and nowhere near a friendly internet cafe. However, I have been riding the long miles in preparation for another take on the Ride Across Indiana looking to better my time of 6:30:27 total time in 2007, which was quite awesome.

I see from the rapid expansion of aham23's "Did You Ride Today?" thread that many of you are indeed putting in the necessary preparation. Keep on bringing the Awesome.

I hope to see you all along the route.

I'm heading out on vacation on Thursday night. Won't be back until the Monday of RAIN week. I am sure I will have some intermittant internet connectivity. If not though we should probably nail down as many of the logistics as possible beforehand.

I'm in too, thank you Michael!

The long-term forecast is for 70's, a few clouds and good, strong wind right out of the west :thumb:

Any advice for a first-timer?

Sob quietly? Keep a brave face?

Just registered. I also reserved a room at the holiday inn, but may change it to drury to save a few bucks (HI 114 refundable rate, drury 99 but with 25 fee to cancel.) I'll probably make the switch when I decide for sure what to do about Saturday night.

I'm planning to sign up with the busdog guy to get a ride back (as well as emergency sag so they say).

Driving from NC, my first preference would be to hook up with a ride from Richmond to Terre Haute on Friday afternoon, and would be happy to pay for the gas such an arrangement would take. Even happier if if I could weasel into some SAG help (emergency only plus perhaps small bag of gear) for the ride so I don't somehow get stuck 50 miles from my car (which, as I say I'd rather have at the finish).

If you or anyone you know can help with any of that, please send me a PM. If not, I'll just drive the extra distance, do the bus thing, and get a second night in Terre Haute.

Is there a time difference in Indiana (vs Ohio)?

I remember last time I was in Indiana, (a few years ago) we gained an hour when we crossed from Ohio to Indiana.

Let's start some chatter.

Putting on some new pedals tonight. I will test them on Tuesday. Luckily they are still Speedplays so I will not be changing the base or the positions...just that actual cleats.

Guys with me plan on your nutrition logistics as though you are only using yourself and rest stops. Not saying SAG won't be available, but it's looking more like it will only be there for emergencies if possible.
