Hello, has anyone cycled on Tower Road between 104th and Colfax? I need to get out to Colfax and Dunkirk, coming from Frederick. I plan on using Frontage road to Hw7 to Riverdale to McKay then 104th to Tower. I've never ridden on Tower and I really don't want to drive out there.
Any input/advice would help.

What hours are going to be riding thru there?
It has a fairly good shoulder but the speeds are high. A lot of trash trucks that blow you around, that sort thing (the dump is at 88th). You should be ok just be careful and stay to the right. Also watch for debris, they don't seem to sweep a whole lot. Flats ya know!

Airport traffic is about all you'll get then and that should be minimal at best. You should do fine. Just ride safe.

In between Pena and 56th ave there is no shoulder. I do the section from 104th and 56th ave around 6-6:15 am on some weekdays and the traffic is not horrible. It gets heavier from 6:30 - 7am then let's up after that. Be alert during that stretch as there are construction sites around and the workers coming in during the morning can be sleepy and grumpy.

From 56th to 48th you get a little more shoulder although the first 100 yards there is nothing (some construction on the east side if I recall). From 48th to 40th it's a little tight and the traffic will be heavier there. That's were you will have to be the most careful as that area is not used to seeing cyclist on the road. After I-70 the traffic is much lighter.
