Road Cycling - Electronic Shifting

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

While prowling not-so-local bike shops, I ran into a Cannondale R1000 with wireless electronic shifting for the cassette. The front still had a conventional deraileur, but the rear was totally electronic. It had a small, inner lever, sort of like a modified STI, for the shifting.
It is made by Mavic, or so says the sticker on the rear receiver/derailleur.
Anyone have any experience with these?
That bike must be a few years old. The Mavic system didn't seem to catch on.
I don't have personal experience, but I've heard stories of cross signal, weight, and low battery power problems.

As far as I know, that Mavic system was on the market a few years back but never caught on. I knew two guys who had them and they were constantly having some sort of problem with them. This was in the mid '90's...
