Hi,

I bought a 2008 Trek 7.3fx, frame size 15. I'm 5'5(167cm) male.
On my road bike I use a 380mm Center to center (or 40cm outer to outer) drop bar.

My questions is, the handlebar for this Trek 7.3FX seem to be too wide/long for me
but is it because I'm used to the road bike's drop bar or do you think I should make it shorter?

I can bring it to the LBS where I bought it and ask for an opinion again but people seems to
give different answers so I'm confused.

The current handlebar is Crowbar Sports 24" inches.
I know nothing about flat (mtn bike?) handlebars and any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Doing a search I only found one thread by outdoorboy which was not that useful...

The right width of bar is the one you are comfortable using. I ride a Specialized Hardrock sport mtn bike. Bars felt too wide for me as well. I cut about 2" (5 cm) off each end with a tubing cutter (preferable to hack saw in my opinion). Much more comfortable now.
Depending on your shifters and grips, you may be able to slide them in to try a short ride before committing to the length. Some bars get gradually wider near the center, so make sure you can still fit your brake levers and shifters after the cut is made. Also, if you are contemplating bar ends, you'll want to leave room for those too.
