Folding Bikes - Where can I actually BUY a Butt Buddy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got one from the eBay seller linked earlier. I was concerned that I might be over-extending my seat post (although the min. insertion line is missing, possibly removed along with all the rust). It arrived very quickly and is performing nicely. I don't know about the suspension aspect of it because I already had kind of a springy seat, but the extra height is nice. I'm not worried about over-extending the seat post any longer. I'll try and remember to get a picture. "How's the new seat thing working for you?" "It's called a Butt Buddy, Honey." "I know what it's called. I just don't feel right about asking my husband how his Butt Buddy is."
My Butt Buddy arrived. I bought it from jag on this thread. I had no luck earlier from the "dealer".
Thanks for starting this thread, Sammyboy
I like like it. It is not as effective as the Dahon suspension seatpost, but it is less than half the cost, so it is a very good value.
I wonder if I am too light or too heavy to get the best effect out of it. I am 180 lbs.
It would be nice if is made for different weights. The metal rails seem a little too stiff for me.
I hope a good responsive dealer can find the manufacturer and sell them.

I'm 240-250lbs, and it works great for me. It'd be a bit limited if it was too stiff for 180 lbs though...

I found the piece of paper it came with and it is referred to as a shocktail.

Any indication on your paper as to the maker or wholesaler?

No it was from Sidetrak.
I did a Shocktail search and this site came up, but I cannot read that language.

I can read Dutch but couldn't find 'shocktail' on their site.

Well I'm sticking with my ButtBuddy. ;-)
Pardon the mess.

I want to stock them on Velo Chocolate, but I can't get any answer out of Sidetrak. So I thought, at least while I'm doing that, I'll buy one, try it for myself (my Mini seatpost is too short). What do you know, I can't get it from their site! Any ideas?
Hi Sammy,
are you stocking the Buddy now? If yes I would like to have one since my legs are too long for my new CarryMe.

Yes Sir, but was it that disadvantageous female attitude to always search for ones own body's fault if apparel does not fit? Or did she want to inform :innocent:

Probably too light. I, at 165 or so, don't compress the suspension at all. It's value for my purposes is the fact that it raises the seat up a couple inches.
Butt Buddy Update.
Today I noticed that my seat was pointed up, way too much, as if my seat post clamp had slipped. Now, since my bike doesn't have a seat post clamp that can slip, this seemed a little strange. So I dismounted and inspected the seat attachment. Here's what I saw:

If you don't know what you're looking at, here's a photo from the Sidetrak website:

You got it, it seems, the elastomers on my Butt Buddy are totally gone, pounded to oblivion by my 165 lbs of dead weight day after day. I find this pretty ironic, in view of my last post on this thread, only two weeks ago.
I will see if I can get a replacement from sidetrak, but ... well, it seems almost everyone is having trouble reaching Sidetrak, and all the copyright dates on their web site are ten or more years old. Not encouraging. I will let y'all know what I learn.....

Hmmm. Gonna keep a close eye on my own elastomers, now.

Eh?
Your elastomers evaporated? Felt unappreciated and migrated?

The Big E and I tried them with the prospect of (1) extended a seatpost on a DT Mini and (2) using them during a Allegheny Pass and C&O Canal tour. We thought that they were worthwhile but in the "end" we just don't use them; I chopped a Mini seatpost to make a telescoping one and wider tires do the trick just fine for us. Both have very low miles. If you want to buy one, just PM me.
One more update... I 'fixed' it by wrapping nylon twine around the steel shaft as tight as I could... here's what it looks like now. I'll probably post another photo in a couple weeks, to show and tell how it holds up.

Canecreek Thudbuster ST (short travel) for when you are done with the butt buddy
on the twine...
find a sheet of rubber roofing material
get an old seat post, sharpen the edge with a file or leave it
hammer out 100 cutouts from the sheet of rubber
find a smaller circular punch like a metal pen barrel
hammer out 100 center holes for the rubber discs you just made
pile them on the butt buddy. done ! you got your rubber bouncy bum back

Thanks sincerely for the suggestion, but no go. Thudbuster seatposts are not long enough. I need a minimum of 56 cm of seatpost.

Also not an option. The rail is not removable; can't put anything over it.

Hi invisible,
I would like to have one for my Carryme. Actually I already asked rhm to inquire for me too if he gets Sidetrack on the phone, so perhaps I give that some days, You got a pm anyhow.
