Baraboo's Intentionally Torturous Century of Hills, anyone do this ride and your thoughts on it?

I'm in for this one this year. It looks like a great ride at a decent price.

BTW, it's on the same day as RAIN (Ride Across INdiana), so a few folks will be down that way.

Wait a minute! I thought you were our sag for RAIN, 'cause of watching $$$? What, you'd rather ride than just watch other people ride?
Okay, as long as you've made other arrangements for our sag I'll let it go.

I am in, I think I have convinced several people that missed the HHH to do this one instead. :D

Missing (well, volunteering for) the HHH is one of the reasons I'm doing this ride in Baraboo. Missing the DLD in August is another reason. The relative bargain registration of $25 is yet another reason.

dave342, you going to be there, or is there racing on the calendar that day?

Sorry, voldemort. I am obviously scum for backing out on my offer to SAG for RAIN, but this ride plays into some other goals for my summer. :o

I will probably ride it this year. I hope to get up there and ride at least some of the course in the next few weeks.

No racing that day or for that weekend. I shall plan on doing this one with you since your not doing the DD.

Well, this is unfortunate, but not totally unexpected. I had the flag up on the mailbox and just had to grab the registration back out of there.

From the website:

CANCELLED: Due to the heavy rains and flooding in the Baraboo area the Intentionally Torturous Century of Hills ride has been canceled.

 Yes.

Cross plains anyone?
I was thinking that and was checking with dave342 to see if he might be up for such an option.

I'm starting to think I ride up there more than I do around home.

With your love of hills and craft beers it seems a relocation is in order!

I'll meet up at Cross Plains.

We can easily make it a 100 miler. Let me know and I'll whip up a route that loops through places where food/liquid can be procured at two or three spots.

Or less miles if that's what's wanted.

Chime in and we'll start a new thread.

This isn't cross plains, but it's a favorite of mine:

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/BCETS08-R12

It starts and ends at Big Blue like the HHH, but it's basically a combo of the DD100 & 200K courses. It's short of a century at 83 miles, but it does some great hills, including Roberts Rd. But if you really wanted to make it a century, you could add a loop at the beginning via F and hit Zwettler & K before Ridgeview. Although you'd miss going down Mounds Park Rd.

including Roberts Rd.
I was mentioning to Rowdy on our ride yesterday that I'd find a way to route any ride over to Roberts. That road is steep.

I don't recall along much of that route that there are places to refuel with drinks, etc, though. The rest stops on the DLD are at Tower Hill State Park and then down in Clyde at some community building. Are there gas stations/stores along the route?

Basically just water stops, unless you fancy a Guinness before tackling the last few miles. There's Tower Hill at 26 miles & Pleasant Ridge bar at 65 miles. The building in Clyde I believe is a middle school, but it's not likely to be open. However, there's a place called GlobalView around mile 43 which has a hose - we've used it this year & I think it's an official water stop on the Quadrupedal. I've been told there's a natural spring at the top of Shop Hill Rd, but I've never found it.

Looking back at the route, you could head into Spring Green after Tower Hill on 23 if you needed something more than water. Oh, I forgot there is a restaurant after tower hill at the Frank Lloyd Wright visitor center along County Rd C before Hwy 23. Or the route could go through Dodgeville pretty easily. The Quadrupedal does Berg Rd at the end back into Dodgeville which is a 19% grade and fairly long.

You riding RAIN this year? If not, Cross Plains could be calling your name that Saturday....

I'll start a new thread for our little forum replacement ride. :)

Not riding RAIN....I actually will be in Boulder, CO still that weekend. I *think* I can find a few hills around there to ride. ;) Otherwise, I'd be in for that Saturday ride.
