Sixty years ago today was the day that would live in infamy. A moment to reflect on that most awful day, and the long grueling war that immediately followed.

I'm going to visit the Arizona Memorial site in Jan. I'll share the pix with you all when I return.

I was just watching Pearl Harbor tonight and got through the first video and will watch the second tomorrow. The funny thing is I didn't even put the date together until tonight when I read your post.

Let's hope this kind of thing won't ever happen again. I was holding my son, who is 7 months old, while we were watching and hoping that he will never have to see or live through anything like that again.

My son is on the USS Carl Vinson. He has been in the Gulf since the start of hostilities. He's doing fine and we're proud of him and all those with him.

Hold your son, be close to him and spend as much time as you possibly can with him. They grow up and become men before we know it.

Well, it did sort of happen again on September 11, but in the modern style we now live with.

Am I the only one on the Forums who was around when the original one occurred?

Cheers...Gary

P.S. The Vinson also has a place in history.

About the original 12/07/41: I seriously doubt it, Gary. I was aware of it and even remember hearing Prsident Roosevelt's message to congress on the radio.

I would suspect that you have some recollections of Churchill's broadcasts. He was an incredible orator, as was FDR.

I was born nearly a decade after the attack on Pearl Harbor, but my father's parents were living on Oahu at that time. The only bright part of that experience was that my uncle, who had left Stanford U. io join the Navy, was able to volunteer for "hazardous overseas war zone" duty at Pearl. Whenever he was on leave, he just walked up the hill to visit his parents.

My father, now 74, was a young man with a job as a gas station attendant on that day. He said he vividly remembers
listening to the radio when the Pearl Harbor attack was announced--he knew immediately that he would be called up for service.
