I am just wondering if someone can recommend one of these HRM's that are under sixty bucks:

performance (http://search.performancebike.com/search?p=Q&lbc=performancebike&uid=143458473&ts=custom&w=heart&af=c2%5fheartratemonitors&method=and&isort=revprice)

or

nashbar (http://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?subcategory=60001054&category=600094&browse=&storetype=&estoreid=&brand=&searchbox=&start=1&orderby=price1&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Heart%20Monitors)

The only priorities I have is for it to be on the wrist as I want to use it for running as well and also that it gives HR and percentage. Calories burned would be nice, but I hear this is pretty inaccurate.

Thanks

I don't have any experience with any of those brands. I can, however, recommend a Timex.

If you pay attention to woot.com, they will occasionally have a reebok HRM with replaceable batteries in the strap for $20. But, you have to be patient.

The walmart polaris works pretty good as well, but is no-frills.

I bought the woot.com reebok. The reebok strap works fine with my Polar HRM (which has non-replaceable batteries in it's strap). The woot HRM gave a lot of false readings, and it's hard to see with polarized sunglasses. Still, it's a cheap strap replacement.

All good tips. And more specific than my searches got. What kind of Timex? Also, the woot HRM sounds interesting.

I have used Polar HR watch's for 15 years and always put up with the false readings and watch resets. Now I ride with a Garmin Roadrunner 305 and the heart rate data is perfect. I can be off my bike and 3-4 feet aways and my heartrate is still picked up. I have never experienced a spike or any bad readings. I also like the data Garmin provides about my heartrate, i.e. time, distance, and avg MPH for each heart rate zone (1-5). This is important data for me because I want to make sure I am only in zones 4 and 5 during the last 3rd on my ride. If I am in these zones when I start a ride I will bonk after 1/2 half or 2/3 thirds of the ride. I brought this GPS device ($162) when my bike computer broke. All I do the stap the watch on my bike and take off.
