View Full Version : Broke another Matrix frame. Montague/Swissbike?

The first frame snapped in September. The warranty replacement frame snapped this week. I've been trying to kill an annoying squeak for days, and finally today I noticed the broken weld where the seat tube meets the top tube.

Anybody know much about the Montague/Swissbike models? Are they really tougher than my Matrix, or are they just marketed that way?

I haul 140 lbs. of trailer 28 miles/day, and I want a folder so I can stow it by my desk and not worry about it being stolen. Besides that, my main criterion is that it, you know, not break.

Thanks in advance.

IMO Matrix is not certified for mountain use. On the contrary Montague frames are tough enough for serious offroad riding. In montague community here (in south korea) many people (including myself, a heavy 190lbs rider) regularly ride single tracks with montague bikes, and no frame crack/failure reported so far.

Perhaps you can find one of the older Fuji folders. They were chromoly steel with 26" wheels. I think that the older Montague folders were also chromoly steel. Given the loads you carry, they might be more appropriate.
