I want to ride the road to get to the trail. I'll be riding groomed trails, but want a little extra grip. The tires need to be durable (puncture protection). 35 mm clinchers. So what's the best? and what's the best bang for the buck?
Thanks!
Raphael

If you can't find a dedicated tire that suits your needs you can always use something like Mr Tuffy tire liners to help prevent punctures.

Schwalbe Marathon Pro

They have terrible wet grip, and are horrible on loose ground.

(Also it's the Marathon Plus, not Pro.)

Thorn resistant tubes, though they are heavy

Do they protect from pinch flats?

What would you suggest?

I'm not sure as I don't ride trails, I mostly ride in the city, with the occasional short bit of gravel or dirt. There is a Marathon Cross, but it is wider than you want.

As I said earlier you can always find a tire that suits your needs in terms of size and grip and add Mr Tuffy liners for puncture protection.

just put some stan's in your tubes.

These are made for hard pack. Slick in the middle, knobby on the sides. Personally, I tried them on the road and didn't like them. Slow, but all knobby would be even worse.

I have never had a flat of any kind when using the thorn resistant tubes, but they are heavy. They were also kind of difficult to find, had to have a bike shop special order them in 28-35 range never could find them online in cyclocross size. Though I thought pinch flats were from not having your tire properly inflated?
