Howdy-
During this most recent spring I increased the number of bikes in my stable considerably. I got a cross bike (which I rode in a pack on the road) and I got a singlespeed MTB (which I rode on steep singletrack a lot) and I got a singlespeed commuter (whose cranks, I later learned, were much too far apart).
I rode one or more of them every day.
Late in the summer I began to notice knee pain, below the kneecap and also behind it (on the front of the knee, but inside the cap: sub-patellar, I guess). The Doc diagnosed it as inflammation from overuse, prescribed ice, advil, rest, stretching.
So I started doing Yoga. And I went and got a professional cross-bike fit, and applied some of the fit to my other bikes. Lately the knee pain seems better (but not gone). I can live with it, and I guess I'll ice and rest one of these days.
But what really troubles me is the apparent BONE SPUR. It's a bony lump below my kneecap at the top of my tibia (both legs, right knee more pronounced). It gets sore after rides, and it is growing.
The Doc didn't have a whole lot to say about it at all ("calcification," she said dismissively). The X-ray technician said, "you got good, strong bones." A physical therapist didn't have much to say either. They look at it, nod, and don't seem too concerned. But it wasn't there in May, and it's quite prominent and visible now, and it worries me.
Has anyone had similar experience?
