Last evening our CBS-TV affiliate ran a short segment on the local news about a new understanding of the role serotonin plays in the body's management of weight. It seems serotonin can signal the brain to store food as fat or burn it as energy. The result was that different people can eat the same things and it turns to fat on one, but not on the other. They are hoping the new understanding might lead to more effective weight control tools.

I went looking on the Internet for more details and found only articles from the last few years on serotonin and weight loss.

If anyone finds a link to a story with more detail, please post it.

getting health information for the news is a bit skecthey as the tend to sensationalize for there own benfit and sometimes leave out some fact that would discredit the headline or not please the spncers..
did you happen to koow if there was a sleep aid commercail just prior or after the segment?

My sister battled/battles anorexia and while trying to find information on it I came across some articles that mentioned serotonin and its link to anorexia. I think there is much more to our brains and its chemistry that plays a part in weight gain/loss than we know. If brain chemistry can have an effect with anorexia, it seems logical to assume it would also go the other way.
I'm just sayin...

It would be a good enough premise to seriously investigate it at the least. There would seem to be a correlation.
