Bicycle Mechanics - Chainring for Campy cranks?

I have 34-50 compact Campy crankset on one of my bikes. It's so flat here, I never seem to use the small ring. OTOH, when riding in traffic, I often find myself in 50-21 (e.g. when taking off when the light changes). This has me thinking about the chainline.

Is there a Campy-compatible 40 or 42 chainring I could replace the 34 with? That would probably be more useful for me in the city, whereas the 50 would still be fine on longer rides.

Campy's compact cranks use a modified 110 mm bcd with one bolt hole off-set so that other maker's chainrings won't fit with out modification. Campy's only optional small ring is 36T.

You could buy any 110 mm bcd 40 or 42T chainring and file or Dremel the one bolt hole to match but the ring spacing and shifting quality might be compromised.

I remember reading somewhere in these forums that the Centaur compact uses standard 110bcd rings. Could this be true?

I thought so too until I contacted Campy and was told Cenatur uses the same proprietary bolt pattern as Record and Chorus. Maybe Veloce doesn't but I'm not sure.

TA Nerius chain rings have the Campy odd 110 BCD if you don't want to file. Also Stonglight CT2 chain rings are in that bolt pattern. You find them on the internet (among other places). Not cheap though.

Thats' what I'm going to try, then. Shifting quality is not very important - I'm trying to avoid shifting in front :).
