Bicycle Mechanics - Crankset question??

I have a Shimano Crankset, 48T-38T-28T with 175mm pedals that I'd like to replace on the cheap (yeah I know). Nashbar has one that has the same chainrings but with 160mm cranks. Will there be that much noticable difference between the 175 and 160?
Also if anyone has a lead on an inexpensive crankset let me know.

There will definitely be a noticeable difference between 160 and 175. Hold out for a deal on a 170(less noticeable) or 175 mm crankset, or try to find some new, affordable chainrings for your existing setup. Hope this helps..

Are you sure about that nashbar crankset? 160 is a very uncommon size, you sure you didn't read the print wrong?

I couldn't find any 160 set with those chainrings on nashbar.

or go to Nashbar front page and in the upper left search block type in YC-488 it come up as a Shimano C051 crankset with 160mm cranks.

Wow. Eight bucks. When you said cheap you meant it. Any Shimano parts with a 'Y' like that in the part number is department store level for sure.

I just did their live chat and they confirmed 160MM.
BTW, it was my first time using that and I had an answer in about 2 minutes!

Ooooooooh, that. I was looking at road cranks. Yeah, they've been trying to blow those out forever.

Well like the other dude said, you will notice a difference, a pretty big one. I can notice a diff btwn 170 and 175.

Unless you absolutely need that gearing you could go for the nashbar mtb crankset, only $30.

I like that one at Jenson. Think I might give them a call tomorrow and check the crank length.

My 10-y-o daughter rides a FS 20" bike with 150mm cranks; avg. dept. store bike rolls 170 on their 'adult' bikes. So, unless you're about 4'11", I'd pass on the 160's.

Yeah. I'm gonna pass on the 160mm. Kenhill3 was correct it is a Dept store level crankset. Not bad for the money but it certainly won't help me out.

For the price, it may be worth checking out for "experimental" purposes.
People that have "commuterized" mountain bikes with road slicks and LOW cassettes or Free wheels might be able to spin right up.
People with bad knees could find them useful too, since they would reduce the range of motion. See my link-

I followed that thread and it had a lot of good stuff to think about. I think I might try the 160's, for the price even if I'm wrong it's cheaper than a case of sports drinks
