Cyclocross - What to do, what to do.....

My LBS has a NOS Bianchi Reparto Corse (Steel) Cyclocross frame in celeste (With a Bianchi CX Carbon Fork with aloy steerer) He will sell me for $500. I've always kinda wanted to build a bike up from scratch and it would make the bike easier to afford buying parts a few at a time, but I am a little unsure of myself.

I could order a Bianchi CX bike complete and ready to ride, but the ones I could afford right now are not the "Reparto Corse" and are not the Bianchi celeste and the frame and groupo are not the same quality as the Reparto Corse.

I "need" a second bike, but I don't need it right away.......

Building up bikes from parts is fun. It'll be more expensive, though, unless you hit up swap meets or ebay to buy the parts. The nice thing about putting it together yourself is you'll have all the tools and skills to repair it when you are done.

buy the frame. it's a fine piece of metal. the 'cross season doesn't start again for nine months, so you have plenty of time. take your time with it, and learn to love the bike you build.

I agree, buy the frame. I'm currently on my second bike that I built from the ground up and I wouldn't do it any other way. There's nothing like picking out every single peice on your bike and putting it all together, especially the wheels. You just get a nice sense of satisfaction from the whole process.

What they said. Go for it. If in the end you run out of money or find a better ceal or just get fed up with it, you can always sell it on for minimal losses.

Ok, If the Frame is still there I'll buy it.

EDIT: I just called them and they said that it was mine. Now I gotta start looking at parts! It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it! :D

It will be harder than you think to take your time on parts. It's kinda like the ring, the bike will be calling you.
