I have a fractured scaphoid bone in my hand. Was in a cast to my elbow for 6 weeks. Now I am in a cast that goes to the middle of my forearm-Thumb is spiked (casted around). I have been riding my spin bike during my recovery. I would really like to ride my road bike. The problem I have is getting a comfortable riding position with my casted hand. I am able to lay a towel across my spin bike bars and ride on my forearm. Very similar to aero bars-tt position. I can shift and brake in the drops, but not really comfortable for prolonged riding.

Any ideas or advice is much appreciated

Well when I had exact same injury I rested the arms on handle bars, so that I was gripping the hood with a good arm, and arms were lying on the bars. I call it poor mans TT position. Took me few rides to get comfortable. You do need a good core for this, since you will probably riding lower then usual. Alternative is to put a stem with higher rise, so you are not as low. Heal fast, that type of fracture sucks big time. :(

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will just have to try it and see how it works. The thought did occur to raise the bars. 4 more weeks in this cast, hopefully healing well...

Took a nice easy 2.25 hour ride today. Found some good hand positions. Shifting and braking was not a problem. I am in week 7 of cast, so hand strength and dexterity is pretty good. Felt good to have the wind again.:thumb:
