I just got through re-building my road bike (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=416777&highlight=). New paint, new wheels, polished up the Phils — it is absolutely beautiful and with the Little Red Wagon Red powdercoat it even looks fast. But recently the road bike has spent a lot of time hanging in the garage while I am out riding my fixie (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=416772&highlight=). Today I wanted to ride to my LBS, about 7 hilly miles each way. On the way out there would be a 25-30 mph cross wind that would turn into a headwind on the mostly uphill trip home. I thought that I would take the road bike since the triple crank would give me some assistance in fighting the hills and headwinds.

I went to the garage fully intending to take out the road bike. As I got into the garage, I looked up at my bikes and pulled down the fixie. I had a great ride, the last few miles hill were tough but exhilarating.

At 330 lbs I must be the biggest fixie rider out there :)

Great job! What wheels & tires do you have on the Fixie?

Road bikes with gears are only for long rides. More than 50 miles and the fixed gear can get a little tiring.

Im about your size...i want to build a fixie so bad...or a single speed. I cant find a frame locally worth a darn. Sounds like a good ride to me.

I am running the stock wheels on an older Redline 925 mine has 36h Formula hubs and Alex ACE-19 rims (The newer models have 32h). I am riding Avocet FasGrip K Duro Plus 700x32. They soak up the bumps very well yet still feel fast. Unfortunately, they are no longer available.
