Triathlon - When and where to start?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
OK I promised myself I would do a Triathlon(mini) before I turn 30(28 now 29 in March).
I am going to make it my New Years resolution. I have the biking down what do I need to do next? Who has the best training books or website?
Start with Triathlon 101. Great intro book.
Go to a running store and get fitted for proper running shoes for you size. Bring old sneakers so they can look at the wear.
Get to a pool. I had to rescue a guy 100 yds into a race because he thought he could still swim from childhood days.

Everyone can run and bike. Everyone can swim...to some degree. I would recommend doing a sprint tri first, that is around 400m swim,20k bike,5k run or thereabouts. The best thing to do for swimming is try and find someone you know who is a good swimmer or at least has good form. You can swim for a long time, the distance shouldnt be a problem because swimming is very low impact and very low resistance. Its the form that you want, lets you go faster with less work. I too recommend that Triathlon 101 book. Let us know how youre doing!
You will find it is more difficult then it seems to run after biking for 20Km. if you will like it go for the Olympic.
There are several running books. I liked Jeff Galloway - Book on Running, ISBN: 0936070277.
Make sure you exercise with hart monitor!

Im looking to do my first Triathlon this August. I will check out the recommended books.
Say sprint not mini triathlon. There's nothing mini about an event that requires an all-out effort for more than an hour. :)
