Mountain Biking - Anyone doing anything FUN over the Holidays?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Me? NO!
However, my office is closed from 4:00 p.m. today until Jan 5th. So, I'm planning on doing a lot of riding over the break.

Probably heading to one of my favorite trails. It's call Santos Trail on Saturday or Sunday. Then just hitting some trails locally/semi-locally.
Of course we're doing the family thing on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Probably just stay in for New Year's. Too many drunk idiots out and about!

Not much fun, but I am getting some riding in.
Who would have thought, even a year ago, that I would be riding my bike in the winter!

I'll probably be at the hospital, in the birthing center with my wife sometime during the holidays. She's due Jan. 4th, but I have a gut feeling it will be an early delivery.
Peace,
Bill

Yep, first one. At the ultrasound last week they estimated he was at 7 lbs 14 ozs already. Gonna be a big boy! I feel bad for my wife - she was hoping for a small child ;)

My boy was 7lb 11oz, and I thought he was good sized. My wife did the "natural" thing! She's got my respect!
I know if men had to give birth, life would CEASE in one generation!
Enjoy it. The best advice I got with my son which I'll give to you is this. Once a week for the first year, dress him up in an outfit and take a picture of him. Do this religiously for the first year. You'll thank me.
The first year goes soooo fast and they change sooooo much, it's awesome to go back to those pictures of his first year and see the change.
My son will be four in April. Fatherhood has been an incredible experience for me. It's defiantely changed my life for the better. My son is so much fun right now. I can't begin to desribe it. Every Sat. we have "Daddy Day"! We get up go to breakfast and let Mommy sleep in. Then we go to a playground or just run errands or whatever. I HATE having to give up my Daddy Days when something comes up. The best part, my son is getting a new bike for Christmas this year. I think I'm more excited than he will be.
Oh yeah, another important thing. Get some flowers delivered to your house from YOU! Even if your wife isn't into flowers, get her a teddy bear or something to show that you appreciate her, it will mean a lot to her. (I'm slow to learn and did so the hard way!)
God Bless and Merry Christmas!

mister boo, congrats on the upcoming kid. i hope things go easy with the delievery and all.
i just had my first child 9 weeks ago. a 6 lb, 8oz girl. like a2’s wife, mine did the natural thing. active labour lasted about 3 hours... pretty impressive for the first child. we had a home birth too, so that probably helped with things since my wife was in familiar surroundings (it probably kept her calmer than she would have been had it been done in a hospital).

i’m with you on that one! hahaha. after watching my wife give birth to our daughter, all i could say was wow, that was the coolest thing i’ve seen in my life.
as for the holiday thing, we don’t really celebrate holidays anymore, but i’m sure my parents and other family members will be doing something. i’ll try to get out for a ride or something too since the weather doesn’t look too bad for the next few days. i got plenty of time off too... i’ve been on parental leave since december 1st! parental benefits is one of the few things i love about canada! hahaha. gettin paid to stay home is niiiiiiiiiiiiiicee!!!

I also have to work Christmas day..Today, My group went out to the desert and did a 50 miler. Coming back from the Salton Sea, we have about 1800 ft of climbing. It is all concentrated in about 10 miles as we head west of the Sea. We all did it pretty well. Headwinds heading east ended upon the return. This was a first 'Salton Sea' ride for some and all seemed to enjoy it. The desert is always a unique place to ride. Like another planet. Strange terrain. .....In fact we roadies, traveling through the desert. Most would swap our road bikes for Mountain bikes. Trails go in every which direction..They look pretty tough too.
UPon returing to the coast it was pretty drippy. Just overcast out in the desert and 60's . Last chance for A good pre -Christmas ride since the next couple days are to be scattered showers.
I have the day off after Christmas and the group will probably do a ride that day. Our Christmas with friends is Saturday so hope get in at least two more days of riding.

No riding for me until next year :( I'm sitting at my in-laws in a small town in Kansas with no bike. I wandered into the only bike shop in town just for something to do today, and these guys were just going to let me ride one of their Trek bikes so I would have something to do today. No bike shop in Florida would even consider giving out a bike for the day to a stranger. What nice people live in the midwest.
Ride on guys, and my God bless you and your families.
You can rent bikes down south man! Especially beach cruisers

I took a newbie on a ride today, and I hit a new trail, I nailed a very large rock pile in the middle of the trail,(intended to keep trucks out), I had a lot of air, and when I turned around the Newbie was lying on the ground next to his bike!! What gr8 way to start X-mas vacation!! Anyway the rest of X-mas will not be that gr8, except for spending time with the family on X-mas day...congrats on the new kid!!
