I have a Night Rider Trail Rat 200, and am trying to fit it to my Cannondale Synapse Sport 5 road bike. Here is the problem:
As the HB approaches the stem, it widens. This creates two problems: One, the taper prevents secure mounting. Two, it becomes too wide for the mount.
Mount it further to the side, right? The problem there is that my road bike came with top bar brake levers in addition to the traditional brifters. I sort of like having them, and don't want to get rid of them just to mount a light. But their cables get in the way of the mount.
Is there some other alternative? I really would like to seem something that lets me mount the NR light right on the front plate of my stem, dead center in the middle of the handlebar. Am I the only person who wants such a mounting position?

You need a newer headlight mount that handles 32mm bars. http://www.niterider.com/store_mounts.shtml

Thanks. I just ordered it. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

No Problem I had the exact same problem with my '07 Specialized Sirrus Hybrid.

Follow-up to my own original post: I wanted to mention that I got the universal bracket, installed my new light, and took it for a spin tonight. It was a quick 8-miles. But the nice thing is that I was finally able to make that ride at night QUICKLY. Previously I had to creep along slowly trying to avoid deadly potholes. The Night Rider Trail Rat 200 provides enough light that I can see what's going on in the road ahead of me, while at the same time enhancing my visibility.
I'm very happy with the light. I'd recommend it to others who ride at night as well.

Take the same light and hook it to a 7.2V battery. You'll double your light output (and cut down the lamp life:innocent:) and really be amazed.
Spare lamps can be purchased at Battery Space for much less than NiteRider wants for them.
