I agreed to go to a conference in DC next week ( will encompass 4 days) now I am bummed because it will interfere with my riding. My own fault, should have said no to it months ago but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Wanted to do a metric around this time in june and now this is going to set me back maybe 2 weeks. Guess the hotel gym will have to substitute for other training, but many of them don't even have bikes.:notamused::notamused:

Our nation's capitol is a city of many secrets, one of which is that it has a vast network of cycling paths and trails. http://www.commuterpage.com/biketrails.htm
There are lots of bike-rental options http://www.bikewashington.org/rentals/index.htm

DC isn't a bad town to ride in. Maybe consider taking your bike?

I know what you mean. I just got back from a 4 day trip. Luckily this was a training "boot camp" where I learned a lot and rejuvinated the mind - but, with a 7:30AM to 8:00PM schedule, no time for biking and no motivation to sit on a trainer, I walked in the evenings instead. Have to go on a full one week trip in two weeks but after that I think I am done for the summer. I hate travel and would rather stay on my biking schedule.

Thanks for the information and suggestions, maybe I can sneak out for a ride at least one day. I don't think bringing the bike is feasible (or optically correct for a business trip) but a rental may work.

I rent a bike on most business trips and can usually get a good ride in before the "dinner meetings". That also keeps me away from the happy hour socials.

There are many organized rides in the evenings - some are 'goon' rides, hammerheads pounding the pavement while others are more relaxed. If you are interested, let me know, I ride in the park system inside & outside of DC a fair amount, usually solo or with a few people.
