Well today was the day I decided to up my distance and go for the 50 km. I've been doing 30 km the last month and half with good success.

It was a nice ride I left about 8:30 this morning and bike down the trail system along the Ottawa river and turned around at the first lock of the Rideau canal, just past the Parliament building. I'm kinkin' myself now for not bringing a camera.

I only had three issues my feet kept going numb, at 50k I can really see the advantage of getting a pair of cycling short my butt really started hurting, if it's down hill one way it up hill the other.

Great job, shorts help a lot on longer rides.

Do any of you experience numb feet? what causes it?

Can't say that I do on a regular basis but have felt it once ina while. I pull my foot out, roll my ankles into a stretch then wiggle the toes.
Have heard of hotspots. Never experienced it but some say it's the cleat is set too far forward or back (cleat position on the ball of the foot). Some say it's the pedals. Most say the spd causes it cause of the small contact patch. So they go with a look type for the bigger contact patch.

Heck, I've used spd's for 10 years with no problems. I say get a stiff sole shoe for a bigger contact patch.:D

Try fit adjustments. Maybe seat too low, too high? Could be your foot not at the correct angle when applying force to the pedals, cleat position not correct. It's the little things that can make a big difference somtetimes.
