I misunderesitmated the distance of my route. I was shooting for a 75-80 mile ride. When I got home and noticed the time, I wondered how it could be (I've no cyclocomputer). Then I re-measured my route and it came to just about 100 miles even. Doh.

I'd like to say it was nothing, but I'm totally beat. :)

Heh, that's what happened to me, too on my first century. Set out to do 80. We got beaten down by 35-35mph headwinds going out, and altered the route to get some substantial food. Wound up with 102 on the ticker for the day. We rode the last 60 miles with or crossing the wind in 1+ hours less than the first 40.

Was it your first - or just your first accidental?

You remind me of the original Fred (I forget his full name) who, while touring the world via bicycle way back when, "accidentally won a bicycle race in Italy".

I rode a century once when I was 17. I just kept going and going and feeling great. Stopping at grocery stores whenever I was thirsy or hungry. I came home and told my Dad about it. He thought highly enough of my adventure that he drove the distances I mentioned and sure enough he registered 114 miles by car.

Then he encouraged me to get into racing which I did for about 5 years.
