I want a HRM, but I want to be able to get something that will track my speed for both running and biking. I was thinking about a forerunner 305, any other ideas?????

I have a buddy who uses a Polar and I think he likes it. I like my Forerunner a lot though and you can usually find them for well under $200 these days.

Sport Chalet. Costco. Amazon.

Sport Chalet - $249.99

Costco - Not available online and we don't live anywhere near a Costco. Or at least doing a search on their main page said nothing available.

Amazon - The lowest price yesterday when I searched was $239.00, but today it is $194.00

I will keep looking. Thanks for the links.

You must have just missed the Costco deal. It was $179 with free shipping. I picked up one for the wife...so now we match :)

By the way...it looks like these guys have it for $188 https://www.certifieddigital.com/shopping/ProductDetails.asp?Sku=GARM-FORERUNNER305

Certified Digital is a good price, but the $29.99 shipping for 7 to 10 days kinda kills the deal. I will just keep searching and watching.

What about the Forerunner 301?

Just my $0.02 but I think the 305 is a better unit than the 301.

What is the big difference between the two, besides looks?

I don't have a lot of money, so I am trying to save as much as possible.

1 - The 305 allows for better display customization whereas the 301 limits you to three pieces of data at once. They have two "stock" displays and one where you can customize the three elements. I like having four elements on the screen (HR, Pace, Time, Distance).

2 - The 305 has better GPS sensitivity.

3 - 305 has a better HRM

4 - The strap on the 305 is more like a watch which is much more comfortable IMO.

There appears to be Yahoo User's Group dedicated to this... http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/GarminF/

The forerunner 305 is too bulky for me so I opted for the watch HR50 with the foot pod. It complements very well with the Edge 305 on my bike. The HR50 does not have GPS but I don't run far enough to need it. This combo is more expensive but I think each one serves better for its intended purpose.

I will look into the 305. That was where I was headed in the first place, and then I found the 301 information, so I thought I should ask.

Thanks.

My wife bought me a Timex Trail Runner unit for $135 off nashbar.com. It has a HRM, GPS and is downloadable.

Trouble is, I haven't actually got my mitts on the thing yet, I just know she bought it for me.

Only thing I didn't want about the garmin is that they don't have great water resistance, also, I wanted I could wear when I wasn't running.

I checked out nashbar.com and couldn't find a Trail Runner for $135.00, I must have missed that deal.

The Timex was $150 on nashbar two weeks ago and I had a 10% off coupon. Nashbar fluctuates from week to week with their prices. It may be worth the extra $50 for the 305, who knows...
