Get a chain mender/breaker and just take a few links out of it. Simple.

do this. its easy. just put the chain in there, turn the handle, pull links off, turn chain around, and push the pin back in. its so simply that my anti-mechanically-inclined brother could do it, and i have to do ALL of his bike repairs. including changing his tubes.

Just don't cheap out and get a crappy one, or it'll break before you finish the job and you'll be pissed.
The bigger the handle, the better. If you have a good local bike shop, show them your chain and they'll give you the right size chain tool so you don't break something trying to use the wrong size.
