Cyclocross - Converting cross bike to road bike

I recently bought a Motobecane Fantom Cross (specs here: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_preorder100.htm) and am interested in replacing the Kenda Kwick Cross 700x32 tires with thinner tires (I'm thinking 700x25) for the summer.

I'm fairly new to cycling and I'm not sure what all to consider before doing this. The bike has Vuelta XRP Pro wheels (http://vueltaxrpwheels.com/pro.asp). Will these rims be suitable for smaller tires?

700x28,25,23 - any should work with your wheels. i'm, personally, skeptical about sub-9 buck tyres. so i've got no valid opinion on your tyre selection.

i run 700x30 Kwicks on my (90% road) commuter, fwiw.

I'm a big fan of the 700x25 Continental Ultra Gatorskins. You can get those at Performance as well. I've got several thousands of miles on mine with no flats and really no sign of wear. You might want to measure the wheels and do a little research. My cross bike won't take 23's.

Panaracer Pasela Tourgards 700x32c. You can put as much air as Continental Gatorskins and you can deflate them a bit if you go on light gravel roads. They are also cheaper than Gatorskins.

I've got some of the Tourgards and while they are a nice tire, I noticed a considerable difference in speed over the Gatorskins. Much slower.

28mm Gatorskins are great. You can run them at 80-90 psi to smooth out rough roads or 115psi to keep up with roadies. Take your bike out on the trails before you switch out the tires though. It will improve your bike handling skills a lot.

Well that makes sense. Weight and size must have an impact on speed
(if comparing 32mm Tourguards to lets say 28mm Gatorskins).

You only have to worry about thin tires not fitting if you have a big squared-off touring rim.

If you need durability, the Gatorskins are awesome, but they're a rough ride and don't grip well when wet. I had them in 28mm and they were dicey on damp days.

I ride 25mm Conti GPX 4000's. Very smooth, grippy, and fast. I wouldn't feel good riding through glass as I would with the Gatorskins, but they rarely flat on me even commuting through some really crappy roads.

+1 on the 25c 'Skins...I replace the cross tires on my TCX with these and really like them.

I tried these same tires on my fantom cross and these tires were the worst to mount with the stock alex wheels mine came with. I ended up breaking a tire lever and slicing the side wall.

I would spend a bit more and get some decent tires, as above I use Conti 4000 and Gatorskin.
Both great choices I think. New tubes as well.
