Recumbent - High Mileage Used Bent

Ok, so I'm a complete newbie to the bent world. After a car accident left me with 6 bulging discs, my back has never been the same. But I've been anxious to get back into riding again. So I decided I'd try a bent bike. I did a bit of research and found that the Bacchetta Cafe would be a nice starter bike for me to get used to the whole bent experience. I found a used one for $500, but the seller says that he was an avid rider and probably has put thousands of miles on the bike. The frame has been recently replaced though. So my question to you is, should I be leary if the bike has that many miles on it? What kinds of things should I look out for when I go to check the bike out? Or should I not even consider a bike with that much wear and tear on it? I'm not really sure how mileage affects a bike, so any education you could provide would be fantastic!!!

If the bike has been well maintained and things like the chain and gears replaced when they are worn out there is no problem with buying a high milage bike. You will want to ask how often, and when the last service was.

The higher mileage, without any service, the more likely that components will need to be replaced sooner. I have put over 4000km on my RANS Rocket with regular servicing, and while it now needs a new chain, it is still good for many more kilometers yet.

The most likely things to wear out will be the drivetrain - mostly the chain but also the cassette and the chainrings. Chains, cassettes and chainrings are relatively inexpensive to replace but if they're worn you want to take that into account in the price. $500 doesn't sound bad for a Cafe unless it's totally trashed.
