This is for the Athenas....

Anyone recommend a good, athena friendly saddle?

My Athena wife uses the Specialized Dolce Womens Gel saddle. Done 84 with no problems, a few 72's and countless 40-50 milers. Only $50 and way worth every penny! I sat on her bike to adjust the shifting and Geeze, I just might buy one for myself!:D

I'll keep that one in mind, anyone else?

Hopefully, you'll get some good suggestions to start you off but...um...since everyone's assets are different it's definitely NOT one saddle fits all. I went through 4 saddles before finding the right one. I love my Terry Butterfly Ti - and yet my friend thinks it is a medieval instrument of torture.

Good luck.

Depends on size and riding position. One sister uses a B67, another a B17
and my wife uses yet another Brooks that's smaller than the 17.

If you sit upright, it's hard to beat the B67. (not the B67s)

Well I will reply for my wife. She has tried a couple and found a Terry Donna that she really likes.
It was way cheaper than the "Butterfly" saddle. I think we paid about $80 for it. If I could find another locally I would get it for her. I may have to resort to ordering one online. It's the first of two biking related items she has really said she likes--the other is Pearl Izumi Attack shorts.

Not sure I've done enough miles to qualify to answer this  but I will anyway!
I use a WTB Speed She Progel, which, up to now has been comfy.

I would suggest the Brooks Imperial :) .

I am one of the testers for the Imperial, and I absolutely love it. It's the same as a B17, but with a CUTOUT!

Just for fun I found this pic that shows the difference between male and female sit bones:

The Terry Donna saddle is actually a 'special edition' Butterfly saddle with 20% sales profits going to the fight against breast cancer - it has the same construction as the Butterfly Ti but has cromoly rails instead.

I've only used B-17's, but I didn't like the shorter nose on the women's version. I'm actually in the mood to play with some new saddles. Bought a cheaper cut-out saddle on sale just to see what the cut-out is like. I like the idea of the brooks with a cut-out! But I'd also like to try a gel one, and a few others people rave about.

I think I saw a saddle swap thread somewhere. Do most LBSs have a saddle swap box?

Aren't Brooks saddles really hard for the first few hundred miles? I know several men that never get used to them. I would think that would discourage a new rider. How long does it take a new rider to do a few hundred miles? Eh, what do I know?:D

I agree Mr. Beanz! I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I wasn't recommending them... I was just saying that it's all I've ever ridden, but was interested in other kinds, particularly with cut-outs. For me, I don't get much seat bones pain, but my girly bits do get in the way some times.

Cool Solveg, I guess I didn't understand.:) I'm sure Brooks are great but seems a big step for a newbie:D

My wife used a Velo ($30 at the LBS) or a saddle from Target (Velo under another label for $15.). It was a lycra covered cushy saddle. Did the trick on 40-50 mile rides for a few years. Now that sh'es done longer, she appreciates the Specialized saddle mentioned above. Heck, head to Target for $20, can't go wrong (inflation):p
