I'm doing the Philly sprint tri as a relay with my brother and college roommate. I'm doing the bike portion. As far as I can tell, it's pretty darn flat except for one climb up Strawberry Mansion hill.
From what I can tell from google earth, it looks like about 1/6 mile at 11% grade. Is that about right?

there's a small climb off of MLK drive to cross the bridge for the Strawberry Mansion climb. I rode the course last weekend and neither climb was what anyone would call difficult at all. just hit em hard, there's plenty of flat after them to recover.
good luck! I'll be there as a spectator!

thanks - grew up near Wayne and went to school in Philly but never rode my bike much back then

oh nice! how did you guys do in the relay?
I've only been in Wayne about a year, PA in general for about 6. Grew up in CT riding my mountain bike, and my g/f got me into road cycling because of her triathalons.....

6th overall, 4th among men. My bike time was faster than the winning time last year but only good for 5th this year.
Lot's of fun, beautiful weather and a really nice course. The hill was definitely doable - enough to slow people down, but not a crusher. We're doing the Olympic relay next year.

awesome! congrats. that was definitely a pretty fast course. I hear there were a few big crashes during the race, you see any? my g/f ended up 2nd in her age group for the sprint....now she's training for a half-iron in Sept.....does it ever end?

didn't see any crashes - almost went down at one of the turn arounds though. A shaky rider went wide and then cut in. I made the tightest turn I think I've ever made to avoid contact.

Did this tri as an individual. It was my first since I was in 11th grade in 1992.
I hadn't been able to train as much going into it as I would have liked, but I was pretty pleased with the results all the same.
The bike course was hillier than I expected looking at the course map, but not too bad.
