OK, so I'm going to Maui again this June to get away from all this PNW rain. Last time I rented a bike and rode around the West Maui Mtns. It was a nice 65 mile ride (lookin' forward to 'the wall' again.) :thumb:

This year I'm taking my bike & I'd like to add some kind of loop or 'out and back' to the West Maui Mtn loop to increase the trip to 90-100 miles. I'll be starting and returning to the Napili area. I've thought about doing the loop twice, but that's a bit much.

So any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance (and I'll be sure to post some pictures.)

I would consider heading down Hana Hwy about 15 miles then turn back.

CB HI - Thanks for the idea. The Pulehu Rd just off the Hana Hiway looks like a good diversion. Is that road ok to ride? Also, what would be the best way back, assuming I made it all the way to Pulehu and was headed back to the Honoapiilani Hiway?

I have never been down Pulehu Rd, but it looks like much of the road is dirt cane haul road. Likely hard packed dirt, but I would want to have either 700x32 or 26x1.5 or larger tires before trying it.
Hana Hwy should be the more scenic and flat down and back route.
Routes (Highways) 30, 311 or 380 are pretty much your means for getting across the middle of Maui.
Maybe someone currently living on Maui can jump in and provide some more (maybe better) advice.
