My wife's new XS sized frame came with a 170mm crankset with a single 38t ring with what they call a double chainguard (plastic ring on both sides of the ring). They make a shorter 152mm which would be just about right for her leg length but I can't find an internet source for it? Can the typical LBS order this up or do I have to use something else? I know this is low end stuff but it does look good and I especially like the double chainguard "look". I'm even thinking of replacing my triple with her stock one, I really only use my 38 ring anyways on my MTB to cruiser/utility conversion :) .

Well, the bicycle mfg said no dice to helping me order up a fix to their engineering FU. My LBS is going to give it a try but didn't sound too happy about it. There was some great info in the forums here about using BMX cranks on fixies with standard square taper BB's so I was able to find some stuff from Niagara Cycle to do the job. This shop is great for low-mid crap at great prices. I would have ordered this all from my LBS but since they weren't knowledgable enough to suggest it they lose ;) . What I got:
1 x Chainring Rockt 110mm 34T-Alloy Sil (1873) = $18.68
1 x Inline BMX Chainring Bolt Set BMX 5/Pkg Chrome (51457) = $2.99
1 x Crankarm Set Bulletproof BMX 150mm 110Bcd Forged Sil (2434) = $19.32
------------------------------------------------------
United States Postal Service (1 x 2.69lbs) (Parcel (4 - 7 Days)): $6.70
Total: $47.69
With this I can cheaply go up on the ring as my wife gets in shape. If my LBS comes through I'll still get the prowheel for the "stock" look. Now, I need to figure out how I can re-create the stock double chainguard on this BMX crankset - any ideas?
<update> Installed the new crankset - two thumbs up for sure!
