Saw this on the Beeb this morning. I honestly don't know what they hope to accomplish. I suppose they are just frustrated and don't know what else to do.

What's ironic is that on NBC Nightly News last night, they mentioned US truckers driving to Mexico just to fill up on gas because it was cheaper.

Or the whole Biofuels credit "splash and dash" scam that has been going on.

That happened several times now in the US. Spend thousands of dollars to get in a slow line and beep a horn - why? Makes no intellectual sense at all; and financially just plain stupid.

Just wondering- is this part of a truck-free-living forum now?

Nothing creates sympathy more than blocking my path and making me late. :notamused:

I dislike critical mass for that reason, and hope to explain to people that it's not my voice as a cyclist.

Goddamn LIEberal hippy activists, thinking they can change the world by going on bike rides! Riding a bicycle never helped no one!

Look at them all smug thinking they might save the planet with their rainbow sweatpants. Makes me so mad I just wanted to post about it on BF.

The problem with the trucking industry is simple. For decades, the companies and drivers have undercut their shipping fees to practically nothing. Today, there are too many drivers looking to work for food and the high price of gas makes it impossible for that! I suspect we are going to see a massive number of layoffs as thousands of independants go out of business. With less truckers on the road, the ones that remain will be able to ask for more money. In short, we are all going to have to pay more money for our goods and services.

You can say that about lots of trades. Fishermen come to mind - there are lots of them out there, and in fact there are so many that we are overfishing the oceans. And with higher fuel prices their livelihood is also in danger..

...which is exactly what you'd expect. Gas goes up, shipping costs more, products costs more.

I guess I don't have a lot of sympathy for people whose business model cannot accommodate rising expenses...

"British intelligence has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production."

I think you need a history lesson, friend.
