I'm really nervous now. Some friends suggested going to the beach this weekend since the weather has been so good. Unfortunately I look like I'm wearing thigh boots and long gloves. I'm quite pale naturally and I turn really dark really quickly let alone 6 hours in blazing sun with no sun cream.
Oh the suffering we bear for our cycling obsession. Non of these friends cycle and they already roll about in hysterics when they see my lycra costume. Cycling is killing my street cred.
You are looking at it wrong. I like my cycling tan lines. It's a constant reminder of what a complete stud I am. Your friends are jealous.

I have two red spots on my six-head from helmet vents after riding the MS150 this weekend. Things can always be worse. :)

My arms are darkly tanned, my hands are scary white with dark brown finger tips. I am a freak of human evolution.

I say go for it. Most will recognize the tan lines of someone who is active and outdoors.
If your friends think the kit and tan lines are funny, invite them for a ride. Find lot's of hills. Ride into the wind.
They won't laugh anymore.........
what is this thing you call a tan? is it red and stings.. taht i am familer with

Now if you're a chick, so what?:D..I never notice tanlines on a dude, never, and I never will!
On a gal, Mmmmm! Mmmm! Mmmm! (Andy Griffith/Everything's better when it sits on a Ritz Style!):D
I would rather see lines on a gal than a total tan.

Oddly enough, it does wonders for mine. My friends at the gym are amazed at the sort of riding I do. And now the story of my riding 90 miles on a fractured rib is gonna win me new praise.

Sounds kinda like the farmer's tan I always have. Ever since I was a child, my arms will be beautifully tanned. My face and neck too. My chest, legs, and feet are ghost white.
I think the cyclist tan is a mark of prestige.

Reading all the responses has convinced me that I should be proud of my tan lines. Dammit! I'm gonna be proud of my deformity. In fact I'm going to go butt naked to the beach! Everyone can stare all they want at my natural white shorts.

Deformity? Hardly. It's more like an elitist tattoo that you have to earn. Other cyclists will recognize your tan lines for what they are. Who cares about everyone else.

Simple solution to get people not to stare at your tan lines:
Neon banana hammock. :thumb: They'll be too busy trying to look everywhere except directly at you.
