Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - bike hauler

This is a little off topic but I thought I would see if I could attach some pics of my most recent insanity. The outside speaks for itself. the inside is fitted with cabinets to store bike gear and such and has 2 Front fork mounts on the floor behind the seats. There are provisions for mounting the wheels on the side wall. I use this to carry my bikes to various riding venues and generally travel with. the Liscense plate says it all FXDGEAR.

Do you have a stock image of that one on the side of your van? It looks exactly like what I've been looking for. Getting a new tattoo :)

Go to www.loficustoms.com they have bumperstickers for 5.00 that they will sell you with that logo. The logo itself is used by www.oldskooltrack.com and maybe you could copy it off their site. I had a truck graphics place blow it up and make a vinyl piece and apply it. There are definately no other ones here in central Ohio like it.

I lived in SF, and did some time in Golden gate park. But those days long past now.

San Diego's a little plastic, but I'm kinda stuck here. I couldn't hang with the weather on the east coast.

BTW, I dig the van. I'd put that sticker on my jeep.. but I'm not really a sticker guy.

35 Years in S.F. including messengering in the 60's & 70's, and then I retreated to the wilds of Central Ohio. Wha? you say? Yes, the wifes' desire to reconnect w/her family. We will probably stay here another 5 yrs until she turns 65 and then Zooooom. We're Outta here.
Any Ideas for the next stage of life? Cost and atmosphere being the criteria.

SF is a different world now from then. More busy, but probably the last of CA towns with personality, that haven't had it artificially shoved in.

I'm in San Diego now, but it's pretty plastic, housing prices are crazy ~ I couldn't affoard my own house, and I've only been here 2 years. (Up by over 100k in two years.. no cash in my pockette tho..) There's a lot of different strokes, but not any cultural blend, if you know what I mean.

If you like the bay area, but only to visit, you could move to Tracy, or Sacramento.. Don't move to Stockton.

I don't know much anymore.

Have you thought about overseas?

Lets see the inside of that ride.

What makes it so undesirable?

I forgot how much fun Old Skool site is. and 63xc is a fun too. I can only hope to be a part of the great sites on the WWW. Nice decals. I like the one tat on the wrist at Old Skool.

I thought for a moment the thread was on the bike I saw on the commute today. This guy was riding an "extended rear" bike. I forget the site on the net but it was an extention created in California so bikers could haul stuff, like surf boards and the like. It was an interesting concept, that I wonder about how to do it without buying one. Have yet to come up with a solution but it looked cool. I almost stopped and asked the guy about it.

Actually I have but it is a streach to get my wife to commit. I would go in a minute. I'm still working on her but I think that is probably not in the picture, at least in the short run. As to Tracy & all of the Central Valley. Does the word HOT Summers ring a bell. We have friends who live there and they report 105 plus temps rather consistently. Unfortunately the Bay Area prices have crept out there also. I think Calif is no longer open for concideration what with home prices and what "Governor Gropenator" will due to the already fragil nature of the economic landscape. Maybe after the economic crash of land prices I can swoop back in and pick up one of the pieces.

Here are a couple of quick pics on a cold foggy morning. The side view is thru the side opening door and shows the bike mounted and the wheel in place in the wall mounting fork. There is provision for a second wheel below the one shown.
The end view is from the rear of the van and shows the cabinets and bike from the rear. The cabinets are Maple hardwood and dovetailed together. The one on the left is composed of three shelves behind the one center hinged door which has a brass ring on the opening side.
The one on the right has a hanging compartment for clothes behind the front half of the cabinet door which in center hinged, and three shelves behind the solid portion of the cabinet face.
We can fit a tandem within the van and still have room to lay out a sleeping bag along side it. When there are two bikes in place, it does get a bit more crowded but is still possible to sleep two. By going this route rather than the bike rack on the outside, which we did on other vehicles, the bikes are protected from the elements and you can lock them up inside the van and go off and explore some non bicycle environements and come back and find your bikes safe and sound. The van also provides for the hauling capacity that was formerly done by a pickup truck which it replaced.
