Was out for a quick ride but damn www.theweathernetwork.com on thie hourly forcast said NOTHING ABOUT THUNDERSTORMS ALL NIGHT and I checked the site the last 30mins before going for the ride. I mean like if there was any heads up it would have been given. This is not the first time that site failed me. I learned in the past you can trust the site in the last hour of the forcast but this just takes the cake. >_<;;

So I got the batteries all charged up and good to go. My Quad-damage is el-ghetto sans housing so rain is NOT an option for me. Suprisingly the light flicked off once. The PB Blaze went strong. The Dinotte kept on going. I got caught in the rain for about 5mins in heavy hippos and elephants downpour.

So this is my summary of the ride:

Dual PB Blaze - thunderstorm 5min test @~32kph, ok
Dinotte tail light - thunderstorm 5min test, ok
Quad-damage (check my flickr) - thunderstorm 5 min test, so-so (flicked off once but kept going afterwards)
Wicking shirt - soaked
50/50 poly/cotton shirt - soaked
Gloves - take a guess (hint read one up:()
Socks - soaked
Running shoes - soaked + pourable (sp?) water :twitchy:
Helmet - wet
Hair - ~50% wet

I ended up with ~1 cup of water squeezed out.:o

Hope this data helps some people out.

Ha!
My old Quad MTB light was all finished, except I forgot to silicone seal the cable grommet. Went for a short ride in the pouring rain, stopped under a bridge and noticed it was half full of water! :(

Muddy water!

Still worked fine. Bit grubby. Gave it a good rinse under the tap, leds still running no worries! Made the mistake of cleaning it with alcohol which cracked the optics a little. Alcohol for drinking, not for cleaning optics. Still got a good run out of that light last winter, LEDs are pretty tough, try submerging a HID or incandescent.

Beware of DENATURED alchohol. It has acetone mixed in to prevent it from being drunk. This is what ruins plastic. I picked up some 190 proof grain alchohol in Mexico. Cleans CDs without hazing. Makes a damn fine Tom Collins, too.

Hair only 50% wet, and you call that a storm? Try http://www.wunderground.com for weather information. It's not infallible, but I've found them to be reliable 97% of the time. I bookmarked my ZIP code, so a weather check is only a click away.

I had the helmet on. I was also only exposed to the storm for 5 mins being caught outside about 5 mins riding (hammering it hard BTW) distance from home. It came a pouring not like a drizzle or shower. We're talking hard pouring rain that can give you a good back massage. :twitchy:

If I was out there for say the whole ~2 hours it was raining hard yah I'm sure the hair would have been totally soaked.

I siliconed the lens tot he LED's and thus one reason why I did nto shortout. However those 9v heavy duty battery clips arn't as rock solid and I thought. Hey do pop off a little if you take a hard bump ni the road.

BTW checked out your CPF pic of the quad again. Every try using CPU thermo paste where the screw screws into the fork to give good transfer of heatsinking? Also the under part of the bracket mount to the fork?

I'm sure it'll keep it cooler for better lighting.

Zero, theres only a few volts so not much chance of anything shorting.
You mean my old quad? That thing was huge and running 500mA, it never got hot, even on the bench.
Check out the cree datasheet on thermal management, a little warm is fine. Anything in a metal housing is probably ok at riding speeds as long as long as you dim accordingly at low speeds. Even my tiny triple curtain rail is only warm when riding, never hot.

I like riding with full power most of the time when off the streets. The 'wow' factor by peoples faces do rock with that 'holy #$@$@# that is the the brightest craziest light I've seen' Also because in the woods I want to make sure I get no surprises from any people hiding in the trees.

Are you serious?
