Mountain Biking - Nixon on a Komodo?

I'm thinking about putting an '06 Manitou Nixon on my '04 Komodo Hardtail. My Vanilla is getting old and the stanchions are starting to click and creak in the crown. The Nixon is slated as having a pretty low A-to-C height for a 145. It also has a 20mm TA which I may enjoy. I'd still need to get the cups for my hub and a post mount adapter for my front brake.

Vanilla:
130mm travel
508mm Axle to Crown

Nixon:
145mm travel
518mm Axle to Crown

What 'yall think?

The price is right and the TA may put a grin on my face.

10mm for an extra 15mm of travel, is definitely doable, go for it.

I absolutely LOVE my nixon for the price i got it, I have the '06 Nixon Platinum (for a few bucks more i would definetly go platinum) and its is great, when im flying down a hill and bunny hop with it i can get like 2 feet of air (fox float R rear) the only slight downside is if you weigh (just you, not you and your bike) over 180ish it requires higher pressure than manitou states.

So the fork is what makes you bunnyhop higher?

Nixon's been riding around on 66's Bullit for a while now and hasn't committed any impeachable offense yet:

The 2004 Komodo is a beefy frame, but it's not the same beefy frame as the '05-present. It was designed around a 4" travel fork. I already have a 5" fork on it. It feels fine, but I don't want to stress the head tube too much. I also think I want to hold out for a 4" 20mmTA fork for it like the new Zocchi 4x or something similar. I really like the thought of the TA now...I wish there were more options for a TA 4" travel fork in the 5lb or less range.

Yah...I'm a pincher too. I got my Vanilla for $213 on a Jenson closeout. I got my frame for $144 etc...

There are alot of places closing out last year's Marzocchi 4x for $450, but I can't make that happen right now.

U-turn Pike...low A-to-C and wind it down...you're set. And shop around for some deals...I got my U-turn 454 air Pike for $350. The coil version can be had for less.

If/when you can, go for the Pike over the Nixon line. Having owned some of both, the Pike is a much nicer fork, with fewer overall problems. Build/construction quality is superior as well. Dial the travel down as needed for the Komodo, and up for if you get a frame capable of taking the taller fork. C2A = 518mm on the Pike line with them all the way up. Ought to be able to find a not abused used coil Pike for not too dear a price.

IMO at least.

The difference in front end stiffness alone from going to 20mm is well worth it.

Not neccesarily but i was just making the point that it has amazing spring and just feels amazing.

Seriously, that was the biggest turn off for me to this fork, what the heck is with the name??! My next fork will the the Clinton Platinum fork.
