I ride a Cannondale Raven 2000SL. Except for the original CODA brakes that came with the bike, it's been a great ride. Oh yeah, I switched out the CODAs for Magura Louise discs...

Lets see the FS is a 2001 Kona ManoMano frame. The parts are:
Manitou Xvert, Chris King headset, Kore stem, Ea70 risers, Avid AR50 w/1.9 levers, Sun Rhyno lites on LX hubs, LX rear der., Deore frt der., Lx hollowtech cranks, Lx shifters, Kore seatpost, Wtb saddle, Shimano platform spds, Panaracer pyro 2.25 rear tire, wtb motoraptor 2.4 front tire and yeti lock on grips.

My hardtail/commuter is a 2000 Kona NuNu. the parts are:
SID XC, Rhyno lites, avid brakes and levers, LX front and rear der., cheap shimano cranks w/truvative trushift rings, Kona stem, bars, and seatpost, wtb saddle and headset, wellgo spds, Yeti lock on grips and Serfas Drifter 2.0 street tires.

The wife made me sell the older bikes and the bmx, they were taking up valuable "space".

My baby - A cro-mo Trek mtb customized my way: Drop bars, bar end shifters. Because I am a flat lander, I ride it with a road triple, and a 13-30 six-speed rear. I have a rigid fork and fat-mama tires. Fast on the flats, handy on the inclines, too.

I ride a 2001 Gary Fischer Mamba... its an odd name, but its a great bike. its a hardtail, has post Moderne front shocks, shimano acera gears, and great brakes. I love it... I bought it for 310$ a little while ago with the Gary Fisher "fishtail" bar ends. I plan on buying a 1996 GT somethin or another, full suspension downhill bike, I am gonna get it from a buddy at work, he rode it for one summer and then got lazy, so I am gonna get it and start up downhill racing, if anyone knows anything about downhill racing, please reply to my string titled "Downhill Racing" I have some questions about it..

I'm riding an old Proflex 755. I've upgraded a few components here and there, but I'd love to own one of those new bikes that I've reading in the mags all year.
With my house renovations, there isn't much room in the budget for a new bike. I have a plan though. If I upgrade the frame on my wife's bike this summer, I should be able to get a new frame for myself this winter...and that should start the ball rolling.

Mookie, you are in the groove, man!

Anything to justify overspending! I am with you 1,000%
Whatever you spend on her = more you can spend on the bike!

Sounds great every time I hear it!

Servus!

Well, lemme see....

A 18'5 Velodrom custom aluminum frame, 2000 RS Judy SL with ShockWorks springs, Full XT drivetrain, DT Onyx hubs with Magura Julie discs, front and rear. Ritchey Pro stem, bar, seatpost. Time ATAC pedals.

I still have the old TREK 7000 for running errands around town that I plan on putting a stiff fork and slicks on but financial woes have prevented that for another month.

Obviously you kids all have trouble making your bikes last...

I drive a 1988 (eighty-eight) CycleTech Crossroads MTB complete with the first ever Scott tri-bar, bar ends, blackburn lo-rider front pannier rack, MEC rear rack, and mud guards.

With toolkit, four empty paniers, and two empty water bottles, the airport people once measured it at approx. 20kg. You guys would have to ride a century to get the exercise I get in a trip to the corner store.

Best of all, my frame apparently still has 12 years left on the warranty.

i ride a Bianchi BaSS. I'm the third owner of this bright green beauty. i love the singlespeed action and buying used means i got the bike with upgrades like Chris King headset, thomson seatpost, Raceface bottom bracket and Salsa skewer for a little more than half of the original retail price. Plus it already had some scratches on it when i got it so i don't feel so bad when i add more.

Funny thing though, it's a Bianchi. But it doesn't have a single Italian part on it.

jus got new frame, wheels and front barke,so here goes:-

Azonic DS-1 16.5", Marzocchi 01 Z4 air 100 forks

Hope XC ti hubs Dt spokes F519 rims,

Hope enduro 4 185mm front brake, XTR rear with carbon booster and avid SD lever,

Raceface stem and seapost, Titec low riser bars, spesh BG comp saddle, shimano PD-M536 pedals

XT shifters and front mech, XTR rear, LX hollowtech chainset with full set of raceface rings, XT 34-12 cassette PC-99 chain.

it kind of upsets the jumpers and Duel riders round here cos it's set up like a single track trail bike, with triple chainring, computer and long seatpost, but it's wounderfully sharp and sprints very well.

(I'm a hard-core retrogrouch. My three road bikes date from 1960, 1980, and 1982. I would probably get something with at least a front suspension system if I did serious technical offroad work, but the trails I ride are pretty tame.)

Update:

Since I first posted on this topic I have gotten a Kona Stinky and sold the ManoMano. The Stinky is stock except for:
Titec Berserker saddle
Avid Discs fr and rr
WTB Motoraptor 2.4 front tire
ODI lock on grips
Front wheel is a Sun Rhyno lite on a XT hub
S&M platform pedals
I got rid of the granny and big ring in favor of a Black Spire chain guide/tensioner. So I'm running a 1X8 with 32t and 11X32.

GT Aggressor 1.0 Not a bad bike, not top of the line but tough as nails so far.

Added bottle cages, bar ends and toe clips. Thinking about getting a road bike also in the future. I've never owned or ridden one before and would like to give it a spin.

Thanks Fubar. I love it, but I have been seriously neglecting her (as in not riding her) in favor of the Surly. I made it up to her though, I just took her to Colorado for some beautiful singletrack attacks. She performed flawlessly. I'll post a ride report shortly.

So Rider, why is it that everytime I click on the links I get asked for a password. Are you trying to keep me out?

It's just you Joe! :D Seriously though, I'm not sure. I seem to remeber you having this problem last time I posted links to pictures on my Yahoo account. I even tested by logging out and testing the link as a guest and everything worked fine.

Anyone else have problems?

Maybe retry. Otherwise, you could always try http://photos.yahoo.com/joewhitehair The pix are under the MTB folder, listed as Surly and Ibis.

I just looked at the Ibis site and the Mojo's retail price is *only* 895!!! I may have my next bike after I get the Cannondale in site already. In fact,I am going to plan which bikes I want for the next 20 years....I have a new game!!! Yahoo!!!!I can shop playing games with the online bike shops. I think the Ibis Ripley is pretty cool, maybe I'll go with that.

Strange, I reread the Yahoo information just to verify - everyone, regardless of whether they have a Yahoo ID/Password should have access to the folders. Maybe it's an undocumented "feature" as we like to say in the software biz.

Rider,
I got to see the pics going thru the other link you posted. The Ibis is definitely an awesome bike. By the way, I would hang on to that bike. IBIS is moving their production out of California. In Fact, they won't even be manufacturing their own bikes anymore, that will be handled by Strong Bicycles.

I ride a 1996 Raleigh M80 chrom-alloy frame with upgrades to all componentry to the Shimano LX level or better. I have nearly 10k miles on it, and i'm talking rough miles with very few on the road. Which leads to another issue i would like to address but i will post it on another thread. This is my first post! woohoo!:D

My new ride is a New Raleigh M80 (2000). I love my old raleigh but they're totally different bikes and i had it 4 days before taking it back to have some upgrades made to it. It was good bang for the buck (stock) but now it's become more expensive than i expected. A little buyers remorse?? yeah...just a little.
After the upgrades...here's the lo-down:

Frame...Aluminum
Fork...Rock Shox Judy XC
Riser...Titec
brakes...hayes hydraulic disc (front, rear)
wheels...Mavic
tires...continental, navigator front, cross-country rear
seat post...Kore (non-suspension)
pedals...spd
hubs...XT
cranks...shimano deore
chain...sach's
shifters...grip-shift. (i know they're not cool...but i like em)
catseye, wireless cyclo-computer

According to my calculations the finished bike should weigh in around 28 lbs which is only 8 oz's lighter than my old (1995) trusted Raleigh that has 10,000 miles on it.
The geometries are the same....but the "feel" was so different. I'm hoping i will like the new components and will get used to the new bike so i don't feel like i've squandered all my budget on something that's going to collect dust in the garage.

HEY - thanks for asking!

Well, right out of the gate I've been having shifting problems. Rapid Fires are new to me so I thought maybe it was me. After a few rounds with the LBS, it was determined that the middle chain ring was bent from the factory. So, we are waiting for the new one to come in (race face). For now, he fixed the bent one the best he could. It's MUCH better, but still drops out of gear a bit.

Overall, I like it. It's my first full suspension and it's very weird to me (but in a good way). It's also a bit bigger than my old Rockhopper, so I am on a completely new learing curve!! My most noticeable improvement is climbing! It is so light - that part is great!

So far so good. Pictures are being developed!

....more to come!

Cool, did you use gripshift before? I had a little learning curve too when I made the switch from gripshift to rapidfire.

09-09-01, 01:21 AM
Hey Sno',
I ride, (like my name) a Gary Fisher X-Caliber,hard tail, with LX/XTR, Marzochi Bomber X.3 flylight 1 100mm travel shock, race disk wheel system, Hayes disc brakes, 6061 T6 aluminum frame-bright orange and yellow, bontrager crank,WTB speed V comp saddle. Got it on sale $1300 American as a new discontinued unsold inventory from Y2K. If I had the cash I would have gone with the upgrade to this, the Mt.Tam, which is a twin except XT/XTR for $2000. Don't regret it one bit tho', it rides like a dream.
My bro. rides an Oryx(unknown name-great bikes-low price), Canadian made bike, with similar components and frame to mine but for 1/2 the price.
My riding buddy, when he's feeling brave for downhill rides the monster of all bikes, the Norco VPS-1($6000 Canadian), you feel indestructable on that bike. But just for trails, he has an upgraded Specialized Stumpjumper, good ride as well, but pricy-$2000+upgrades.
I added a NightRider-trail rat light with battery to my bike with 10W bulb, love to ride at night(forest trails are a trip!)? Get one of these, they last a long time 3hrs., come with recharger-$75, and a $10 rear flashing reflector, safety counts when you are having fun.
What do you learn from all this? Get out and ride, take some chances and enjoy yourselves!

X

I'm showing up to this thread a bit late, but here's my contribution:

I've got a '98ish (bought off a friend, so I don't know exactly) Gary Fisher Aquila, Manitou SX-E fork, mostly Deore components, and really crappy wheels that need to be upgraded.

It's not much, but it gets me where I need to go.
