Monopoly is an interesting game.

Most monopoly players think they know how to play it, but when they get together, there is always an argument about
the actual rules (since the rulebook is always missing.) Usually, we make a compromise about the rules, just to keep the game going.

So it is with driving in the U.S.A. There are not only arguments about rules, but people like to make their own.
As people "rewrite" the laws, others follow their bad examples. Before long, no one remembers the original rules.

Car drivers seem to have created a "monopoly" of the roads. The goal of some of them is to own as much of it as possible. Go ahead and wave the rulebook in their faces, but some will always claim you're wrong.

Nevertheless, the "rulebook" guarantees every cyclist's right to use the roads. Period.

The rule book is inconsequential in this respect as far as I am concerned. If they wanna take taxes off me to fund the roads, I will use them as I see fit. If they don't like it, they could always give me a refund on that money. If not, they can choke on Fred Durst's soggy sao for all I care. :p

Or they can ticket you and collect the fine. Which should be done to all those who make up their own road rules. Cars and bicyles alike.

Pete that is one of the best analogies I have ever read! Good on ya! You don't mind if I use it in some of my public speaking engagements do you?

Oh dear, it appears to be clarification time again. What I was referring to was this perception that "roads are for cars" and associated crap that I seem to cop quite frequently. I generally follow the road rules as such for no reason other than the fact that it enhances my survival prospects.

I knew that all along! But I just couldn't resist! :D My view remains the same concerning the car driving primates' lack of abiding by the rules.

Most San Diego motorists realize that bikes belong, but occasionally someone writes a newspaper letter complaining about bicyclists taking lanes or making vehicular left turns. The SDCBC usually responds in force.
