Take note all you carbon frame, 27 lbs, tandem riders. A couple on a Cannondale RT 1000 posted the fastest time of the day at the Ride around the Bear this weekend. I'm not sure but this might be a course record. Estrada Alex 353 6:16:13 AM 11:45:08 AM 05:28:53 T

Great news! Uh, ah, umm now, what the heck is the Ride around the Bear????? Distance, elevation profile, number of riders, weather conditions, previous record...any info that would tell us anything about this ride? Otherwise it really doesn't tell me/us anything unless you're familiar with the event.

Sorry About that, I usually post up on the Southern California threads. The Ride Around Bear is a 100 mile ride with 9500 feet of climbing. It is limited to 400 riders and fills up every year. Very few riders complete it under six hours. To do that much climbing on a tandem in that amount of time is unbelievable..http://www.ocw.org/bear/bearinfo.asp

Frame material is not as important as the folks that propel the 2-seater.
Lon Haldeman and Susan Notorangelo rode our club's double century a few years back in 10 1/2 hours. They stopped at a friend house after the 200-miler, showered/ate and then pedaled their tandem from Tucson to Phoenix (another 125 miles) 'cause they had a speaking engagement there that evening.
They were riding a steel (c/f had not been used for tandems then) twicer.
Yup, the riders do make a difference!
But . . . congrats to the 2 guys that did 'the Bear!'

I think it was a male/female team.
