Usually in Minnesota we have a "January thaw." It's December 25th and was in the mid 30s, on its way to 40 by Sunday, with rain. This is so screwy. I bought Nokians, and used them for a week. Now with the dry roads, I'm back riding on my 700x23s. I got my speed back, along with my spin, and time (God it feels great to finally be able to get to work in 1:30, instead of 2:15). Of course with the rain, there will be cold and ice so I'll be back on the studs but for now, it's springtime and I'm loving it!

Hey NAISME!
It arrived here overnight and is on its way to you!!!!!
A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT EASTERN PORTIONS
OF CENTRAL MONTANA WITH WIDESPREAD SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW. BY SATURDAY
AFTERNOON 12 TO 24 INCHES OF TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE
ACROSS THE PLAINS OF CENTRAL MONTANA...WITH TWO TO THREE FEET OF SNOW
IN THE MOUNTAINS. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40
MPH WILL CAUSE VISIBILITIES TO BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN A MILE WITH
LOCAL WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS.
NYC man - I live in RI and I LOVE this weather. I rode half the day today and it felt like summer!!
What they told us in Chicago was that this winter was going to be unusually harsh, but that December would be unusually mild in comparison. They predicted this in late November, and at the time, I didn't believe it, but since December was so mild, I'm starting to think they may be on to something.
I'm getting scared of January, though....
Koffee
Last night a rain storm washed away the last patches of snow. Today is around 50 and no snow on the schedule. I have not put the studs on this year and its looking like I may not have to. (Not a problem with me.)

It looks like Spokane missed yet another good snow storm (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/99205?lswe=99205&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared). But it's headed right toward you N7CZinMT . Have fun riding in it.
I'm cooped up with the flu today, with nothing better to do than play on the computers. Therefor I'll provide weather reports and moral support for everyone else.
Seven inches of snow yesterday. Looks like I will be putting on the studs after work. Although, tonights low is going to be -11F...a couple degrees below what I can tolerate. I may have to wait a couple more days before I can ride to work.
it was 75 in middle tn yesterday
today it is 38
my ride was cut short by ice particles hitting my face....which i find most unpleasent
the big change in temp didnt help either.....as a former upper midwesterner i never used to mind the cold...but 20 years in the south has wimpified me
its here we are looking at the posibility of 4-6" tonight it was very very cold here this weekend brrr
Well, it finally hit us too. I need to keep my mouth shut, cause now it is not just cold, it is cold, like colder than a deep freeze. So cold that the Saint Paul Winter Carnival can start cutting blocks of ice out of the lakes to create the ice castle. They haven't been able to build one in years past. When finished I'll post some pics.
I know this summer I'll be out there sweating it up wishing it were cold again, but for now I'm just wishing it could warm up a little to the teens at least.

Sorry to hear about your flu! That is the pits!
The storm did hit us head-on. We received over a foot of fresh powder.
Only compliant is the SUB-ZERO temps that came along with it.
Hope you get better soon.
Okay, the snow is almost gone, it's suppose to get warm this weekend, and will probably go completely. So, I'm dumping the studs and going back to street tires. This is just to much. I was hoping for a really wet winter, and we don't have nothing (double negative, so we must have something, oh, wind and cold, but that's leaving too).
With this wind, I figure I'll get around better and faster without having to fight those fat tires and studs. At least if it starts up again I'll have them to put on the rims and ride.
Maybe with the warm up I'll get a century in.
Hey NAISME,
We have been basking in the 40-50F weather for over a week now! 7 day forcast calls for more of the same. We may even have RAIN early next week! Rain in January! Go figure...
Okay, this cold with out snow really sucks! It's 3F today at noon! No snow, no promise of snow, just cold windy sunny days. SUCKS
After working all week and looking forward to my typical Sat. morning ride with my buds, it was rainy and foggy all day. OK, I think, no problem, it's supposed to be colder on Sunday (low 30s F.) but that's all right because I want to ride.
Then last night, in comes the new forecast: Falling temps into the teens with windy conditions. OK, I'm thinking I can do a tailwind ride. So what if it's 5F windchills, I'll just have my wife pick me up somewhere downwind. I'll go right after lunch.
Then, about 8:30 AM the flurries start. Did the weatherman mention snow? I think not. By 9:30, it's advanced to full fledged snow. By mid-afternoon, I give up and hit the trainer. :( Oh well, Saturday is only 6 more days away...
The snow has come here!!!! Its "summer" and at the top of one of the mountions down in the south island. Its ment to be summer!!!!!!!! :p
Brrrrrrrrrrrr
Temp to drop tonight to -8F, I'll be out there. I sort of imagine there may be a time when some one will stumble on my body, like Jerimiah Johnson did, an icicle of a man with his hands clutched around the handle bars of my fixie, frozen in mid spin, huge icicle hanging off my beard, and a glazed look in my eyes.
Hey, that cold air is headed this way. It supposed to be hear by Sunday. They are predicting high temps next week of 11F below zero! I was getting used to this above normal temperature thing... :)

naisme,
Something tells me you will have no problems with -8F and some wind. Stay safe and keep warm. Do I really need to tell you that! ;) You already have those skills. You are one of the few and TRUE winter cyclist, That I know. :)
Well, it is 11:40pm CST, and the temp outside is -12F. The NWS is reporting winds to be as high as 30 mph, and a -33F windchill. I won't be leaving work for another hour. Tomorrow's high is 4F. I had to ask, where did winter go.
