Not sure if this is the best place for this but here goes. I'm in the market for some decent 8 panel short for around 50USD can any recommend some brands. Anybody have any experiences with Voler? TIA.
My first shorts were Performance Century with eight panels. I love them, and - possibly because I never had others before - can't imagine why I would spend more than that. They were around $25 on sale, which is almost always.
I loved Performance, so I am a little miffed that I will probably never give them any more business. Can someone explain the rationale behind their new policy of not shipping anywhere but the billing address on credit card purchases? It worked great the first four or five times. I see no reason for that whatsoever, but maybe I am missing something.
Cheers...Gary

I've tried Voler shorts and found them to be quite acceptable but not stellar. Stay way from the cloth pad models buy only the synthetic leather/chamois pads ( similar to ultra-suede). In that price range Blackbottoms are a good bet.
Ride good shorts, not short rides

I've tried Nashbar, Performance, Canari, REI, and Pearl Izumi. Most have been very good to excellent, although I'd give Performance the lowest rating.
You can generally find all for under $50, except PI. Sometimes you can find PI at REI or your LBS for around $50.
Since most stores are into winter cycling you may be able to find end of season specials on top brand shorts.
You can also try PricePoint (http://www.pricepoint.com), http://www.bestbikesinc.com/,and http://www.longscycle.com/. They have some great deals!!

My favourites are Louis Garneau Ultra Pro bib shorts. It has a nice, beefy chamois that's a lot like the [much pricier] Nalini shorts, and they fit very well. They're also very durable. The think I don't like about the Performance/Nashbar shorts is the way the lycra tends to lose its shape over time. I like my shorts to last AT LEAST one season.
BTW... go to a bike shop and try on bib shorts. One pair and you'll never wear half-shorts again.

Performance cycle has a Performance Elite short has an "Elite Y chamois," that I find very comfortable. Can locate site on web. The comment they conform to your anatomy is correct. Bib are more expensive that $50 but, the comfort of no waist band is worth extra $19. Come if blue if you are tired of being in black.
When did performance start that policy? I just ordered from them a few weeks ago.. and had no problems shipping to a different address. You might try calling them, explain to them that you shipped to different address in the past and they might do it again. But the reason they I know some places do not ship to a different address is because of credit card fraud. If they ship to a different address I believe the credit card will not honer there charges.

I'm impressed with the fit of the bib knickers I bought from www.impsport.com. I bought some Giordana bib shorts from www.probike.com which I found a little close fitting in the one area they shouldn't be - I'd highly recommend the Giordana jersey's though.

On October 22, I had an order shipped to my sister-in-law, who was to come over in early December. On November 22, I placed another order - same billing address, same shipping address, same credit card.
Two weeks later I got an Email stating that they could not verify my address, and so had cancelled my order. When I informed them that it was not being shipped overseas, and enclosed the order verification they had sent me, they simply said that they had a new policy as of November 1.
I sent a three page FAX to the president of the company. About a week later I got another Email from the same person I got the original from in customer support, simply saying that the policy had changed.
They have sent five orders the other way, either to my office in MA or relatives in VA. They have also lost a good customer.
Cheers...Gary
My team has Voler . I love them. They're the best I've ever tried, and they last a long time! :)

Try Bike Nashbar's "Sunday Short"...
I've got two of them and only wish I'd found out about them before I bought a few other brands.

Thanks to all who replied. FYI, bought two pairs of Volers. They're on sale for 35USD. Can anyone tell me if they run large? According to the sizing guide I'm a medium. How do Voler medium shorts compare to say large Pearl Izumi Attack shorts? In other words I'm 5'10" w/ 32 waist and 166#. Thanks again.

Well finally got my shorts from Voler. I originally bought mediums per their online sizing guide and they were way too small. So I returned them for some large of the same thing. Well it took them like two and a half weeks to turn around and get them out to me again. Are they always that slow? At lease I know what size short I wear so I don't have to go thru that again.
