I think it's pretty cool but I wonder a little bit about the "Safest" routes. I tried to do 66th & CPW to Katz's Deli. I think the actual safest route would be to cross over to the Hudson bike path and then cut back over when you get downtown. I tried it again for Little Italy and it still used streets only. I guess I could see using it if I needed to get somewhere quickly but if I had a few extra minutes, I would still figure out my own route.
That said, I think it's a GREAT tool!!!
You can submit feedback about routes, etc, here. (http://www.ridethecity.com/feedback.php)

Did it already... It really only allows you rate a street rather than a route but the comment field is free-form so I tried doing that.
I just mentioned in the general feedback box that R & A Cycles appears on 5th Avenue in Manhattan when it's actually located in Brooklyn. Still, the bike shops along your route feature is pretty cool.

Nice, but I don't see the route it planned for me or the directions. I tried Firefox and IE and it didn't show on either.

Worked great for me -- I typed in my job location and my apartment, and the route was identical to the one I've been taking -- great job!
Doh - you beat me to it!
Remember all, it's Beta. Boston was the first to try something similar out of necessity (since they didn't give the planner any money in the budget to do the study) so it'll take a bit of testing and trying before the kinks get settled. Great potential!

Works fine for me with both Foxfire and Safari on a Mac.

Ah it works. I guess it couldn't find a bike way to get to City Island.
