Here, finally, is a pic of my son born this year on 22nd August (6 and a half weeks early) I sure this little guy will be a great cyclist one day.....
I'm already checking out some bikes for him !!

Now, the serious business. You state you are checking out some bikes, eh? That of course means you'll need something new for yourself...

Off topic, and maybe this is a pm issue, which the moderators might want to call. When you did your epic rides in the Alps recently, did you hire a bike or box-up and send your own? Did you fly, or drive? I'm just trying to get a handle on the logistic issues that you would have considered or addressed.

Yeh, I'm thinking og getting one of those trailer things you tow behind a bike when he is a bit older. We have no hills over here, so the extra weight would be great for training. :D

The Alp questions: We drove all the way from Denmark to Alpe Du Huez in our car. It is not really that long a journey, about 1500km. We stopped over in Heidelberg Germany on the way there, so it took 2 days. I packed my bike in a bike bag, which stayed in the car for the duration of our travels. I did this for various reasons, but primarily because I did not want to risk it being stolen on the way there, or back. It rained a lot on route to France, so I was really glad I opted for the bike inside the car. (It also helps to have a decent sized car I must add)

We camped at a camping site at the base of Alpe Du Huez. It is actually the last camping site before the dreaded climb. We booked about 5 months in advance and got a reasonable rate, and camping spot. There is many options off course, but camping seems to be the favourite amongst cyclists I've met in the Alps. There was suprisingly many Brits at our site - all of them drove there themselves.

I will check again the details of our trip and reply more specifically regarding costs etc.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll check the sites you referenced. Frankly, I find the British people can be quite over the top when they go to europe on vacation so I generally go in the opposite direction! :D

I'm not sure but I read something about the history of the toilet some years ago. It was claimed, by the Irish, that they invented the toilet in 1790. It was later claimed, by the English, that they came up with the idea of putting a hole in it in 1890.

Like you, I'm amused as to what the difference is between a British toilet and a European one? Maybe if poululla can take time off from beaming ear-to-ear how proud he is of his son (:D) that he might explain it, having been there and seeing one close up, in a matter of speaking.:)

As it turns out, the humble toilet as we all hopefully know it, is a "British toilet" Anything else, from the chemical to the infamous longdrop, are mere imitations.

It is a normal toilet, but there's a thick wall-to-wall carpet and no heating whatsoever. There's also hot and cold water for washing, but the taps are located in the opposite corners of the room.

Or maybe it's the porcelain. :D
