Hi everyone,
I am participating in the week long Cycle Oregon ride this September and wanted to get some ideas on how to train for such a long ride.
Over the course of seven days we will be covering, 452 miles with 20,000+ feet of climbing.
1 - 46/1,000
2 - 83/3,503
3 - 70/2,717
4 - 79/4,022
5 - 83/7,412
6 - 34/1,105
7 - 58/1,714
How would you train for this ride?

Try this site - pretty helpful last year for me imho. http://www.cyclingsite.com/
I did Cycle Oregon last year (07) and the best skills I developed were Tent breaking down 101 and beer drinking 401 - It is a great event - you will enjoy it! - Very organized!

I know I won't have to worry about that one. Thanks for the link.
There is a Portland based company, Strada, that works with Cycle Oregon as a training resource, they are linked from the CO website. They did some seminars, and I believe there are still some group training rides.
Day 5 looks like a "fun" one, not only the longest day but the most climbing.
To answer your question, I am riding a lot, and look for hills to climb. I commute on a single speed, and hit a couple extra hills on the way home. Weekends I switch to the bike I will ride CO on and ride long distance, as long or longer than the normal ride days for Cycle Oregon. Back to back long days when possible. I'm trying to do a little upper body and core work, since I feel long rides in my shoulders more than my legs.
See you there!

I did the Tour de Blast to the base of Mt. St. Helens, which was over 7,000' in 83 miles, and I'll be doing the Seattle to Portland (200+ miles but not many hills to speak of). Other than that, I ride a lot of hilly routes around home. I should be doing other forms of exercise to strengthen my upper body and harden the gut, but.....
See you there. BTW, if anyone needs a ride to Elgin, I may have space for one more.
