The rest of the parts finally arrived to finish the front end. Nashbar trekking bar and Nashbar natural cork tape, Soma tall quill to threadless riser (Phatatude, thanks for the idea), Performance Team Forte 100mm stem w/8 degree rise, and Performance Team Forte mountain brake levers. The bike is much more comfortable to ride because of the multiple hand positions available and handles more like a traditional road bike. With the original handlebars, hand position was just behind the headtube and now my hands are well in front even when riding in the upright, close position on the bars. It is nice to stretch out a bit in the wind and also have some leverage when climbing by placing my hands on the sides of the bar.
I'm done for now. . .A guy I know says he has a un72 bottom bracket. . . .

Nice setup. I'm working on something similar on my bike. I almost ordered a trekking bar yesterday, but backed out. Wasn't sure how much I would like it. Then I saw this thread this morning and decided to give it a go. The Nashbar you chose is about $30 cheaper than the one I was looking at. Thanks for the tip. :)

Good eye. I feel like I have the best of both worlds with these bars.

I think you will like the trekking bar. Nashbar has some great deals as does Performance. I was told that Performance now owns Nashbar but I can't confirm that.


Thanks again to everyone for the ideas and inspiration to try this. The folding forum is a friendly place. I have been riding very, very little over the past four years and the R20 is a large part of the reason I'm riding again.
